Last week, I had written about Microsoft launching new SmartArt Graphics for Office 2010 applications such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook. Along with Theme Picture Accent and Converging Text, you can now use the latest SmartArt graphics Hexagon Radial and Picture Frame to your documents.
As always, you will find them in the SmartArt gallery, on the Office.com tab. (On the Insert tab, in the Illustrations group, click SmartArt.)
Here’s a quick preview of this week’s addition to the SmartArt graphics family.
Latest SmartArt Graphics to Join the SmartArt Gallery
Hexagon Radial
This SmartArt can be used to show a sequence of events while retaining the focus on the central idea of the graphic. The outer hexagons are connected to each other by a lighter connecting color to highlight the flow of events, while the sharper hexagons add variety to an otherwise usual radial design. This SmartArt is limited to six Level 2 shapes and works best with small amounts of text.
Picture Frame
Picture Frame enables you to add an offset frame or border to bind text to images. It is particularly important if you want to link text to images without using captions. If the image already contains text and the picture frame hinders text, use the Crop tool on the Picture Tools tab to move and resize the images without moving or resizing the shape containing the image.
If you don’t see the SmartArt graphic in your Office application, don’t worry, there have been slight delays in its implementation and you should be getting it pretty soon.
