Creating a Winner
The Nokia 3310 sold very, very well over its lifespan, with 126 million units sold. This makes it one of the most popular phones of all time – not to mention the fact that it has managed to receive cult-like status because of its indestructible nature. It’s this cult following made up of people who are passionate about the cell phone that has enabled it to achieve such an esteemed status.
People go to extremes to try to harm the phone and then brag about it online. From running it over with trucks to dropping it from heights to other crazy tactics, a lot of people are trying to test this phone to see how rugged it really is when put to the test. A Phone Ahead of Its Time
Beyond being virtually indestructible, the small phone was ahead of the pack when it came to features back in 2000. In the era of flip phones, the Nokia 3310 had an LCD screen and many utilities built in. The phone even had four games installed, including the super popular Snake II. Another feature people liked was that it could send long text messages. At 459 characters, it strung three SMS messages together for one massive message.
The phone was also one of the first that made it easy to customize with interchangeable covers and over 35 ringtones built into the phone – a lot when it was first released. Several variants of the phone were produced over the years, including the Nokia 3315, 3360, 3390, and 3395. The 3315 added a lot of new features while the others were for different cell phone markets.
