Nokia Lumia 920 Review

November 6, 2012

The Nokia Lumia 920 has been launched as the latest flagship handset of Nokia. The most important point that should be noticed here is that will this handset strengthen the alliance with Microsoft and will it give a push to the upcoming handset line of Windows Phone 8?The fact that has created a lot of hype in the mobile market is the interlinked relation between two different firms that are filling the smartphone space by their new technology. After the launch of Nokia Lumia 920, it has been a difficult task in confirming who has the brains behind this new smartphone; Nokia or Microsoft. However, it has been stated clearly that these two technology giants are putting up a united effort in gaining smartphone campaigns. To prove this right, considering Lumia 920 as a joint product is not a disappointment.

Nokia Lumia 920: Build

One of the first features that one may notice about Nokia Lumia 920 is the brilliant design, size and colorful appearance. Unlike the previous iterations that Nokia has shown through Nokia Lumia 900 and Lumia 800, this handset has an entire different look. In order to make RF transparent, polycarbonate uni-body has been used that also makes this handset provide with better and efficient antenna performance. The handset gives a solid feeling and the plating along with ceramic keys are less invulnerable that can cause scratching.

With previous Lumia models on board, we can clearly sense that Nokia is trying to stand in the race of smartphones by the designs they come up with. With the signature touch of bright colors that are perfectly injected in polycarbonate, the color of the handset won’t fade away.

Regardless of the downfall Nokia has been facing, it has been an accepted fact that they always give the best imaging capabilities. This is because of the PureView system they have been using. To be more precise, the PureView system comprises of techniques that make the camera features ‘float’ onto the tiny springs. Therefore, the optical assembly stays steady on the phone while the phone can be jiggled off and on.

The main and most attractive upshot in the imaging category of this phone is that the lens can be used up for a long time and won’t cause blurring to images and videos. Combined with HD display, the clarity and enhanced brightness gives a very good look.

The second most interesting feature present in this phone is the unique built-in wireless charging. Proving it to be a hassle-free approach, the trend of this type of charging seems to be increasing the future and Nokia has done with really well through this smartphone.

Filled with augmented reality, Lumia 920 comes with Offline Maps that are to be liked within Nokia Drive.

Maintaining their ‘Xpress Music’ image, NFC is also one of the latest features present in Lumia 920. Just by tapping the speaker, you can turn on the music that is present in your phone.

Nokia Lumia 920: Screen

Nokia claims that the screen of Lumia 920 is the fastest LCD display ever! The screen has 25% more brightness than that of the rival smartphones. The screen also features Pure Motion HD Plus that is designed to promote clarity in videos and stills.

Verdict

In the race of smartphones, Nokia’s mission statement is playing catch up with iPhone and Android rivals. The Lumia series so far have been doing a good job as they have been providing sturdy articles in this race!

Update: Starting Nov 9, 2012 AT&T will be offering the Nokia Lumia 920 on contract for $99.99. Pre Order starts tomorrow.

Looks like a fantastic phone. I especially like the wireless charging. I wish all phones had that feature. I know it doesn’t charge as quickly as corded charging but for overnight charges, it’s just perfect.
