Facebook is introducing a news feed app that will let you explore stories from around the world and share it with your friends. The app, called Paper is the work of Facebook’s Creative Labs department and it will become available for iOS users in the U.S on February 3rd.
Facebook Paper: Feeds Reimagined?
The Paper app will feature an intuitive sectionalized layout that will make for distraction-free reading. The News Feed section which will pull in photos, videos, and stories shared by your friends and will display the stories in a rich photo intensive layout. Each section is expected to feature a main cover photo with smaller sections that present itself in a card like format. You can swipe through the cards to go through each story.
Easy touch controls will ensure that you can flick through stories with your thumb to read them effortlessly. Tilting your phone will let you experience hi-res photos in closer view. The app will feature stunning covers making it easier for you to find the stories that are worth reading. Videos are also expected to auto play in full screen.
You can also post your stories using an interesting and intuitive WYSIWYG editor. Before you share them with the world though, you can see a live preview of your story.
Unlike the usual news reading apps though, you won’t find an offline reading mode. Also missing is the option to add any website you want to your feeds. Instead you will find stories picked out by Facebook’s specialized content curation team.
Facebook Paper is expected to give you a Flipboard-like experience but we will have to wait and see if the app can give Flipboard any sort of competition. You can find out more about Paper here.
