TomTom XL 340-S offers a unique advanced tracking feature that is not commonly seen on GPS devices. Other TomTom devices that do not contain this feature can actually end up making drivers swerve across highway junctions due to missing exits, so it’s definitely a very useful function.  On the TomTom XL 340-S you can see which lane to get into via a clear graph.  It uses clear flashing arrows that show you exactly where to go so you don’t miss your exit and can prepare with time to spare.

Another great feature that is included with this TomTom is the IQ Routes part. These tips will provide the fastest route to your final destination so that you can miss out heavy traffic. If traffic is heavy when you’re traveling, then the TomTom GPS will let you choose a route with lighter traffic that should get you there quicker.

Update the Software on Your PC

The TomTom XL 340-S also has its own software that you can update by connecting to a PC or Mac. The software installs itself automatically on your computer and lets you add updates, add maps and route planning. It is even possible to add different voices to your TomTom – or even record your own into the device.

User-Friendly GPS with Tutorials

The TomTom XL 340-S is user-friendly and comes with on-screen tutorials that you can follow in order to explain the various features – for example the emergency assistance service. You can also create map corrections and upload them to TomTom map share and also plan route online.

No Bluetooth or Real Time Traffic Data

Unfortunately the TomTom XL 340-S does not support Bluetooth or real-time traffic data (you will need a separate receiver – can be purchased online). The XL 340-S is however worth the price low price.  The TomTom XL 340-S includes North American maps and European maps and is bundled with more than 7 million points of interest. It is very likely that you will never need to use even a small fraction of them but it’s great to know you have them at your fingertips when you need them.

Conclusion

The GPS device from TomTom has far more advantages than disadvantages. If real-time traffic information and Bluetooth are important to you, then this may not be for you.  But the TomTom XL 340-S has been successful in the market due to the low price point and reliability.  Overall it’s a great GPS for someone on a small budget who simply wants basic functionality to be able to get from A to B.
