With Microsoft getting ready to launch the much awaited Windows 8 operating system for both PCs and mobile devices some time in late October, we decided to take a look at what smartphone manufacturers have been up to and which Windows 8 phones to watch out for in the months following the release of the OS. Samsung, Nokia, HTC, and Huawei are just some of the manufacturers who will be wishing Windows 8 Phones bring big cheer to their Christmas this year. As for us consumers, here’s hoping we will be spoilt for choice!
5 Windows 8 Phones to Watch Out For
Nokia Lumia 920
Nokia’s fortunes rely heavily on the success of its Windows 8 phones and the Nokia Lumia 920 is its flagship device is definitely worth looking forward to. With some PureView technology, PureMotion HD display, Smart Shoot, and Nokia City Lens, you get to capture blur-free photos, videos under any lighting conditions, best group photos, and locate the best places in a neighborhood, just to name a few. The phone features an 8.7 megapixels camera , 4.5 ” display, Snapdragon™ S4 processor, Internet Explorer 10, a ton of Nokia apps, and wireless charging, just to tick off the top of the list. And yes, it does come in some startlingly vibrant colors!
Nokia Lumia 820
Touted as the baby brother to the Nokia Lumia 920, this Windows 8 phone features an 8 megapixels camera, 4.3 ” display, Snapdragon™ S4 processor, Internet Explorer 10, a microSD card slot, wireless charging, and interchangeable panels for taking advantage of some and vibrant colors! Both Nokia models are expected to be released in November 2012 with Nokia Russia already accepting pre-orders.
Samsung Ativ S
Samsung’s leap of faith into Windows 8 is to be seen on the Ativ S. Featuring a 4.8 ” HD display, 1.5GHs dual-core processor, front (1.9 megapixels) and rear cameras (8 megapixels) with LED flash, and support for microSD card slot and NFC, just to name a few.
HTC 8X
HTC’s Windows 8 phone entrants include the HTC 8X and HTC 8S. The HTC 8X features an 8 megapixels camera, 4.3 ” display, Qualcomm® S4 1.5 GHz, Dual-core processor, 1GB of RAM and 16 GB storage, Beats Audio, a really sleek design and some pretty pleasing colors bar the Yellow!
HTC 8S
The smaller brother to the HTC 8X, this Windows 8 phone features 5 megapixels camera, 4 ” display, Qualcomm® S4 1.5 GHz, Dual-core processor, 512MB of RAM and 4 GB storage, support for microsSD card slot, Beats audio, and not to forget those bold colors Windows 8 phones are starting to represent.
While all these devices promise to bring the Windows 8 experience to the consumer, the devices themselves are not neither innovative or revolutionary, and we will have to wait and see if they can equal the popularity of the Android and iOS smartphones that have set the standards in the smartphone-o-sphere.
