The era of Samsung flip phones isn’t over, which might come as a surprise to some people, after all they were popular ten years ago, but who would want one now? Not only do Samsung still produce flip phones, but they’re also still coming out with new models. A lot of these new models only make it onto Asian markets, but some come to western mobile phone service providers too, and it is possible to buy a new Samsung flip phone. But who buys these? And if you want one, which one is the best budget choice.
Who Buys a Samsung Flip Phone?
Samsung have actually found a very specialized niche in the market for their flip phones. The big advantage of a flip phone is that when not in use, its screen is handily protected by flipping the case in half. Not only that, but a flip phone can have both a physical key board and a screen in half the amount of space that a more traditional phone would use, since you fold the phone in half anyway.
This makes flip phones ideal choice for people who live relatively active lifestyles. If your idea of fun is mountaineering or rock climbing, or if you work on a busy building site, then a flip phone might be just the thing that you need. It means that you get all the convenience of a phone but with an added layer of protection against damage.
This makes flip phones great for travellers, hikers, climbers and those in the construction trade. If we’ve finally convinced you that you might need a flip phone, you might be wondering which one you should buy. Samsung currently markets two budget flip phone options, the Samsung Chrono and the Samsung T259. We wanted to know which is best, so we put them to the test to find out what their differences are. If you want to buy one of these two affordable flip phones, keep reading to find out which one we recommend…
What the Samsung Chrono Does Best…
The Samsung Chrono has a couple of advantages over the T259. First, it does have around ten percent more PPI, meaning that the display is just a tad clearer, brighter and crispier than that on the T259. You also get a better battery. The Chrono averages around sixty percent more stand by time per battery charge cycle than the T259 does (twenty two days versus just fourteen days), which results in you having to charge your phone a lot less often. Finally, the Chrono comes in around ten percent smaller than the T259, so it’s just a little more portable and easy to slip into your pocket.
Are There Any Advantages to the Samsung T259?
The T259 does have a couple of advantages of its own. First, it’s a 3G phone, rather than a 2G device like the Chrono, giving you better networking and connectivity. Second, it has a far higher resolution camera. The T259 comes with a 2 MP built in device, as compared to the 0.3 MP camera on the Chrono. That means that photos taken on the T259 are better quality and have more fine detail.
Which is Better?
We’d probably go for the Chrono, mostly because of the battery life. If you’re buying a phone for the outdoors where you’re going to be away from electricity, a good battery is pretty important.
