Remember back in high school when the coolest kid in math class was the one who had the best calculator games? Tetris, Mario Brothers, and Frogger were definitely my favorites. Enter the 21st century where everyone can play games anywhere on the Android or iPhone. The good news: games, games, and more games! The bad news: games, games, and more games. It’s hard to find fun gaming apps in the midst of all the junk, so if you love sports, puzzles, or survivor horror games, check these out.
Fun Gaming Apps to Play on Your Android or iPhone
Sports Gaming Apps
With Euro 2012 just finishing, what better time to check out Android’s app PES (ProEvolutionSoccer) 2012? At $5.52 this app serves up great graphics and easy controls to offset the price tag. From Konami Mobile, this is a must have for all you soccer fans. If you’re looking for something free and sillier, check out iPhone’s free SumoFighter app. With funny cartoon characters, easy controls, and Facebook and Twitter integration, you can show off to your friends and have a good time.
Puzzle Gaming Apps
As one of the top-rated apps in the Android market, you may well already have SodukoFree on your phone, but if you don’t, do yourself a favor and download it now. There are four difficulty levels; auto-save for your game, and real-time competition options, this app is perfect for puzzle lovers. If you already have Soduko and are looking for something other than Tetris, check out DiamondCrusher, also free in the Android Market.
If you played Bejeweled online, this will look familiar to you. They say diamonds are a girl’s best friend, but you might just find crushing diamonds is a lot more fun! For trivia lovers, Android Market’s app WhoWantstoBeaMillionaire has all the features of the TV show, including four lifelines! With nearly 1,000 questions, it will take you quite a while to solve all these puzzles.
Survivor Horror Gaming Apps
If you have an iPhone 4S and love killing zombies, you have to check out EA’s console-to-iPhone conversion of Dead Space. Most of these conversions are so bad that you feel lucky to survive playing them, but this one has amazing graphics and preserves the gory scenes and dark hallways of the original game. Consider this to have a mature rating, though, and make sure that you keep it away from kids if you don’t want them to have nightmares.
While the graphics can at some points seem way too intense for the small iPhone screen, the overall experience will pull you in and keep you shooting. At $6.99, this app might be too much for some phone gamers, so check out Munkyfun’s Archetype for only $0.99. Besides being a fun shooter game, this Halo-esque game has another unique feature: you can only play against other players online. There is no single player option, but it is so popular that you’ll find willing opponents day and night.
As both Android and iPhone become more and more sophisticated, the fun gaming apps options continue to increase. Knowing what you want can help you find the best apps faster, and if your boss ever complains, just remind them: All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy!
