Installing an operating system on your hard drive is a piece of cake. After all, we are in the age of Windows 8 and almost everyone (technology savvy or not) knows something as basic as installation. However, there are different ways of installing an operating system. You can opt to use a DVD or an optical drive. Or you can go the old fashioned route and simply install the operating system by using a USB drive. Everyone wants to get their hands on the new Windows 8 operating system. Microsoft has already launched this new OS and going by the reviews, it is simply great. So without wasting more of your time, let’s get straight onto how you can install Windows 8 from a USB drive.
How to Install Windows 8 from a USB Drive
1. Things you will need to install Windows 8 from a USB Drive:
- You will need the Windows 8 Consumer Preview disk image file. This is either a 32 bit or a 64 bit file which can be downloaded from the Internet.
- You will also need Microsoft’s Windows 7 USB tool (can also be downloaded)
- And of course, a USB Pen drive. I would advise you to buy a pen drive that is at least 4GB or even more in size. (Note that you should have a 4GB pen drive if you are installing the 64 bit version. )
2. Once you have the above mentioned things, you are good to go. First of all, plug your USB pen drive in. The next step involves installing and running Microsoft’s Windows 7 USB tool. While installing this tool, you will need to select on the 32 bit or 64 bit Windows 8 disk image file (which you should have already downloaded).
3. The screen that next appears will ask you if you wish to create a Windows 7 backup on either a DVD or USB device. Click on the USB device and select the device you have inserted into your computer.
4. All you have to do after this is to select the tab called copying. Click and it and it will start copying the files.
5. Now’s the really easy part! Sit back, have a cup of coffee, basically relax as the new Windows 8 operating system is downloaded onto your computer. Unlike previous versions of Windows, this one does not require you to sit around and check on what is happening. Microsoft has an excellent installation routine which does all the work for you. By the time the installation is almost complete, you just have a few more steps to input.
6. Once the installation process is complete, you can use your USB pen drive to boot your PC and run the Windows 8 set up process.
Simple, isn’t it? Yes, that’s all you need to do to install Windows 8 from a USB drive. You will save yourself the hassle of getting blank DVDs and so on. Using a USB drive to install this operating system is a much faster option for you. It is of course a must to use a USB drive if you are installing Windows 8 on a laptop or notebook that does not have an optical drive.
