Facebook, Twitter, Blog sites. I bet that you have an account in one, if not all, of those. Indeed, you are getting closer to your distant relatives and friends. You can update your loved ones even if they are miles away from you. Online world is good, there’s no doubt about that. However, have you considered some of the disadvantages of publicizing your identity in World Wide Web? There are hackers and identity thieves. Obviously, they are good for nothing. The sad part is, it’s very hard to track these hackers. The only thing we can do is to be more careful. Easier said than done? I don’t think so. I will be giving some practical online privacy tips on how you can protect yourself from these hackers. Let’s practice online privacy so we don’t have to encounter grave problems.
Online Privacy Tips to Protect Yourself from Hackers
Limit your online connection
Even if you want to meet new people, or if you want to expand your network, don’t randomly add or accept invites in Facebook or in any social media sites. It should be limited to people you really know.
It is recommended that you change your account settings. Ensure that you put it in a private mode. That way, only few people can view your account.
Avoid putting ‘too’ personal information
Normally, we are too excited to make our online accounts. And because of that, we don’t usually screen the information that’s visible to people. If we are asked to fill up a form, we just do it without thinking twice. We immediately put our addresses, birthdays and the likes. It’s a big No. If you will give your personal information, hackers can easily trace you. Apart from that, they can decode your passwords according to the information that you have provided.
Avoid opening your accounts in public
Some of us can’t really wait to go home to open our social networking accounts. We maximize the internet accessibility outside of our homes. Yes, checking your account is a good way to kill time. But you should know that it’s very risky. Hard core hackers can easily go into your accounts and they can change your passwords right away. They can tap the system of the so called ‘free wi-fi’.
And even if you are using your own laptops, the fact that you are in a public area, some people can easily see what you are typing. If you are about to key in your password, they will know what it is.
Beware of fraud online shopping sites
I know that it can be very tempting to shop online. I mean, you can buy things without so many hassles. However, there are some people who create fake online shopping sites to steal your credit card information. You really have to be careful. Otherwise, they can access your credit card and they can purchase a lot of things.
Always remember that hackers are really great! If you will not protect yourself, they can easily steal your information. Don’t let that happen. You can avoid that if you will follow the tips above. Keep your privacy and don’t let anyone use your identity.
