If the name is anything to go by, the Samsung Galaxy Y S5360 (Y for young) definitely meets the need of the young buyers.
Samsung Galaxy Y S5360 : A Review
Display and Design
The Samsung Galaxy Y S5360 has a curve body and about 3 inch touch screen which is capacitive and has a nice touch response. For menu and back options, two touch sensitive keys lie at the bottom. The Galaxy Y somehow, resembles the other models of Galaxy such as Ace and S but it is light weight i.e. 98 grams. If we see the dimensions, they measure approximately 58 x 104 x 11.5 mm.
With a 240 x 320 pixels resolution, the display is not as attractive as the display screens of Galaxy Ace and S II.
Operating System and Storage of Applications
The Samsung Galaxy Y runs on the Android 2.3.5 Gingerbread operating system. It has a processor of 832 MHz which complements the low specification but could have been better. You will find FM Radio, Youtube, Task Manager, Social Hub, Downloads and Voice Recorder as default apps in Galaxy Y other than Gmail, Clock, Camera and Music etc.
The pictures are stored in the Gallery with different folders. The pictures and videos can also be shared through Picasa Software, Gmail, and Bluetooth etc.
Samsung Interface
There is a typical Android interface of Samsung. The apps can be clicked and opened instantly; however, you might experience a pause when there are shortcuts and widgets.
Network Connectivity
3G options for making connections and increasing network is possible. Whereas the Wi-Fi, GPS area based connectivity and Bluetooth options are also present. Samsung have always been giving the excess of connectivity options. About five devices can be operated at the same time with the help of Wi-Fi as Galaxy Y works as a hotspot.
The Camera Quality
You get a 2 mega pixel camera which is not of good quality, so if you do buy the Galaxy Y, you cannot expect much from its camera. The greatest picture resolution is 1600 x 1200 and there is no flash option. You cannot get a perfect picture if you zoom.
Battery
There is 1200 mAh battery life of Galaxy Y S5360 which seems complimentary with the low quality processor. The battery can stay for more than two days which is quite a long time. This charging remains if the Wi-Fi and network connectivity options are not in use.
The Storage Memory
In Samsung Galaxy Y S5360, the Micro SD card offers a memory of about 4GB. You can expand the MicroSD card slot to about 32GB.
Verdict
The downsides to the phone are its low resolution inhibiting the ability to use apps, a poor camera, no earphones in the package, and absence of adobe flash support.
The Samsung Galaxy Y S5360 is a decent enough smartphone to own if you are looking to buy your first smartphone at a low budget. (Low budget should be read as basic smartphone with limited features.) If you have never owned a smartphone before, you will certainly enjoy what this phone offers in terms of gaming and socializing.
