With the holiday season around the corner, parents, teenagers, and kids are preparing their wish lists in the hope that their stockings are well stocked this Christmas. If one of the items on your kids wish list is a smartphone or a tablet, would you be prepared to buy the most sought after product for your kids? Well, that’s the question that SodaHead, a premier opinion-based community asked the public and the results were quite extraordinary. Over 1,000 parents polled that kids should get tablets or smartphones after they turn 16.
54% of the respondents were surprisingly okay with young teens having cell phones, but not tablets or smartphones, while over 66% of them said that young adults could receive a smartphone or tablet.
Surprising for me was the fact that 55% and 64% of teens were not too keen on a smartphone or tablet!
The lighter side of the infographic showed that children as young as 6 and 7 years have started making their cellphone debuts.
Women appeared to be the spoilsports as far as giving a tablet, smartphone or cellphone to kids under 12. Almost double the percentage of men were willing to give these products to kids under 12.
Since this is just the beginning of the tablet and smartphone explosion, it may not be too long before the trends change. It does seem absurd to prevent young kids and teens from taking advantage of the latest technological advancements available today. Sure there are worries that young minds may be influenced by what’s available on the internet, or that they may be distracted or lose their childhood. But the best way forward is to spend quality time with them, communicate, and teach good values. There are dangers everywhere, even lurking on Facebook! and holding back a smartphone or tablet from kids/teens seems absurd.
However, this particular infographic tells the real story and things are bound to change in the coming months and years. What do you guys think of the poll? Share your thoughts with us.
