5 Apps to Keep Track of Your Personal Finances

April 4, 2012

It’s one thing to make a budget and stick to it when you’re in front of your computer at home. It’s another thing entirely when you’re out and about. Not having those numbers in front of you when you’re actually spending money can make your budget spreadsheet at home utterly worthless. Here are 5 apps to keep track of your personal finances on the go. While some applications are free, some will hit you with a one-time or even a monthly fee. Don’t be put off by the paid apps, however. Some of them are worth the money.

5 Apps to Keep Track of Your Personal Finances

Pageonce

Pageonce - Apps to Keep Track of Your Personal FinancesPageonce isn’t strictly a personal finance application, but it does do budgeting. It’s available for just about every mobile platform on the market too. You get real-time updates via email or push notifications on your mobile device. The notifications will warn you about overspending, impending bill payments, and will also allow you to view all of your financial stats in cool charts and graphs.

Mint

mintMint is a popular free budgeting and personal finance tool. You’ve probably heard of it before. Its web-based software has become a major hit over the years, but its mobile app can also help you on the go. Mint’s mobile version has the same simple design as the main site. It makes tracking your spending pretty easy. You can receive alerts about bills and budget issues. You can also monitor savings and spending goals.

This app is pretty polished, and it’s what would you expect from its owner – Intuit.

EasyMoney

EasyMoneyEasyMoney is only for Android, and it currently costs $9.95. You can input transactions, bill notifications, and the program allows you to look at your finances in a graphical format. The idea behind the graphs is that you can chart your past spending habits and tweak future spending as needed.

You can also split transactions between multiple categories. EasyMoney also includes a tool for photographing receipts and importing data via .CVS files. There’s a 30 day trial so you can check it out before you buy. If you’re skittish about paying $10 for an app, consider this: most of EasyMoney’s features are paid upgrades on other applications.

Pocket Money

PocketMoneyPocket Money is $4.99 and gives you enough features to make it worth the price tag. The app puts a sweeping view of all of your accounts and transactions. You can enter transactions manually, create repeating transactions based on dates or cycles, and then create custom filters to view your money the way you think is most useful to you.

You can also purchase plug-ins that upgrades your application like a Photo Receipts plug-in that gives you the ability to take photographs of your receipts while you’re out. That will keep your wallet to a manageable size, and force you to account for your spending right away.

ProOnGo

ProOnGoProOnGo is a bit different from other finance apps in that you pay on a monthly basis for it. At $0.99 per month, it’s a heavyweight for sure. The app is decidedly for businesses and power users. If you need to track things like automobile mileage, business meals and other expenses, generate reports for tax purposes, then this is the app for you. The basic $0.99 per month package is limited to manual entries and expense report generation. You can upgrade to a premium package for $4.99 per month. That level of action includes web-based access, backups of your data, custom spreadsheets, and it syncs to your American Express business card.
