Apple has finally put to rest the months of speculation on the latest iPhone. In an event at Cupertino, Apple CEO took center stage to announce the launch of two new smartphones, the iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C.
Rumors Before Launching
It appears that much of the rumors related to the iPhone happen to be spot on. Analysts expected two iPhones to be released. One, a premium model while the other a much cheaper version. The premium model was expected to come out in gold, while the cheaper one was expected to be out in a hue of candy colors ranging from pink to green. Rumors about an integrated fingerprint scanner inside the Home Button also turned out to be true.
Where the rumor mills disappointed was in terms of pricing. Although the low end iPhone, the iPhone 5C was expected to be cheap, it ended up being a lot pricier. For instance, the unlocked phone was priced at $549, which is clearly mid-range, and in overseas markets, particularly India and China the price range is most likely to make it a high end device.
Another announcement that the rumor mills were expecting was some sort of a software update for Apple TV, but that did not materialize either.
Apple iPhone 5S Launched – Wait is Over
Coming back to reality, Apple’s premium model, the iPhone 5S comes with massive improvements in performance and security and according to Apple executive Phil Schiller, is the most forward thinking phone Apple has ever created.
The iPhone 5S comes with an A7 (64 bit) chip. Apple stated that it is earth’s first smartphone with an amazing CPU and users can experience twice the speed and performance as the iPhone 5. iOS 7 is redesigned for 64-bit and all iOS applications now supports it. Furthermore, developers will find it easier to transition their apps as the phone will continue to support 34-bit apps.
The iPhone 5S operates OpenGL ES 3.0 similar to the Samsung Nexus 7. This enables superior glare and lens flames. Furthermore, the iPhone 5S provides extraordinary image-authenticity for game playing. The graphics are obviously much more beautiful than the iPhone 5.
Apple has also introduced a new co-processor, the M7 for motion that will be a boon for fitness apps. The M7 has the ability to measure motion data using accelerometer, gyroscope and compass and will provide a wealth of information needed for such type of apps.
The Home button is redesigned with an inbuilt Touch ID that can scan the sub-epidermal layer of the finger, with 360 degree readability. There’s a steel ring around the button that knows when your finger is touching the button. A sapphire crystal inside captures your fingerprints and analyzes it. And in case you are wondering, the prints are never stored on Apple servers, just on your iPhone.
The iPhone 5S offers 10 hours of 3G talk time and LTE browsing, 250 hours on standby, and over 40 hours of music playback. It will be available in grey, silver, and gold colors. The iPhone 5S will be in stores on September 20th. The 16GB model will cost $199, the 32GB model will cost $299, and the 64GB one $399.
Apple iPhone 5C Launched – Unique Experience
The iPhone 5C is named so because of the candy color hues in which the phone will come; White, Blue, Green, Yellow and Pink. Apple said that the iPhone 5C is made completely with one component, you cannot discover any joint. It’s also has designed customized cover casings with “soft-fell rubber silicone.” While the multi-colored iPhones seems enjoyable the rear cover casing is nothing but plastic material.
The iPhone 5C will feature a 4 inch retina display, an A6 chip, 8 megapixel iSight camera, 1080p HD video recording, and 1.2MP Facetime Camera. Unlike the 5S, the cameras won’t feature a Burst mode that will allow you to shoot up to 10 frames per second. Another prominent absentee is the M7 motion coprocessor, Fingerprint identity sensor, and the slow mo video recording feature.
The iPhone 5C will be available at $99 for the 16GB model, $199 for the 32GB model and will be available for preorder on Sept. 13th.
What do you think of the iPhone 5S and the iPhone 5C? Are you disappointed with the missing features in the 5C and its pricing or are you super happy with the advancements in the 5S model.
