The world’s biggest sporting event is just around the corner and if you are a big fan of the sport but can’t make it to Brazil, don’t worry. With your Android phone by your side, you can take all the fun and excitement of the FIFA Football World Cup 2014 event wherever you go. We’ve put together some of the cool Android apps to catch up on the excitement and glamor that is the FIFA Football World Cup 2014.
Android Apps to Catch World Cup FIFA Football 2014 Action
FIFA
There’s no better way to start off this post than with the official FIFA app. The easily swipe-able interface brings you real-time match alerts on your favorite teams, gives you up-to-the-minute news, standings, teams and schedules, displays exclusive images and video coverage of everything’s that happening in Brazil. You can see the detailed profiles of all the teams and players, team related news, Man of the Match awards and follow every game live in the Global Stadium and oh yes, shout, cheer, share your views with friends, fans, players and coaches.
FotMob – World Cup 2014 Brazil
This app isn’t an exclusive World Cup app but you can get all the standings, news, city guides, teams and WC qualification information from the menu section. A tabbed interface will show the fixtures, table standings, top scorers, assists, team progress and playoffs.
You can tap on a country flag to get in-depth statistics on the team and you can set alarms when goals are scored. You can also hear audio news, video reviews of the cities where the games are played and add matches to the calendar.
Onefootball Brasil – World Cup
This is a really cool app that is completely dedicated to the world cup event in Brazil. On launching the app, you are allowed to pick your favorite team and receive push notifications on everything that’s happening around your team. You also get the latest news and stories from newspapers, social media, and websites from around the world, check out the tournament standings and results and find all the statistics you need on the squads and individual players.
You won’t find information on the beautiful city, its stadiums, and even a player’s lifetime stats, but there’s just about the right amount of info you need to know about the game, all presented in a clean, intuitive interface. I’ll be keeping this one for sure.
Brazil Cup 2014
Here’s another app that puts together everything you need to know about Brazil 2014. Countdown…check. Matches date-wise… check. Group stages and playoffs…check. Teams and player information…check. Twitter updates…check. Stadium-wise match information…check. The history of world cup winners…check. Don’t go expecting news and announcements, options to set alarms, or an in-depth history of player profiles and team stats. This one is just about keeping you on top of all the scores and stats as the event rolls on.
2014 Brazil World Cup Schedule
This is a simple straightforward app that shows you the groups, schedules, matches, and road to the final. The app does not offer any additional information on the teams, player profiles, historical stats, videos or offer alarm notifications. What you can get though is the countdown to the games, live scores and the time zone when the games will be played. This is an ideal companion app to any other app you have already installed.
ESPN FC Soccer and World Cup
ESPN FC Soccer is the FIFA Official U.S. Broadcaster of the World Cup event in Brazil so if you are in the US, you will get exclusive in game highlights, breaking news and analysis from the top guys Gabriele Marcotti, Sid Lowe, Jeff Carlisle, Roger Bennett, and Raphael Honigstein, among others. You also get live match video highlights and relive the key moments of the game soon after the match. This one’s not as comprehensive as FIFA or Fotmob but there’s plenty of live chatter which you might find appealing.
FIFA World Cup 2014 – News
Want to catch up on all the World Cup news? Get the FIFA World Cup 2014 News app. There are plenty of photos to browse through, videos to watch, and you can even take a look at the table standings. This is a simple app but its well presented in green and gold.
There are plenty of apps in the Play Store that don’t singularly focus on the World Cup such as 365Scores, SofaScore World Cup 2014, and Sports Republic. You can take your pick of one or two of the apps mentioned in this post and that should give you more than enough juice on the biggest football event in 2014.
