The Best Budget Phones To Buy This Christmas

December 9, 2013

If you are looking to buy a new phone this Christmas then you can get your hands on a smartphone for much less than you would expect. This year the top mobile phone providers are producing budget smartphones such as the Nokia Lumia 520, Motorola Moto G and the Google Nexus 5.

Why Buy a Budget Smartphone?

A budget smartphone is a perfect choice if you do not want to upgrade your original handset but your phone is feeling a bit old. You may also want to take a break from paying an expensive contract. Over the lifetime of the more expensive handsets you will pay as much as £700! With a budget handset you could pay as little as £7.50 per month.

Motorola Moto G

The first phone to be released in the UK as a joint venture between Google and Motorola, the Moto G is a high spec smartphone that is not only customizable but also offers a 4.5inch HD screen that is said to be the best in its class. What is also really important is the battery life! Too often a great smartphone is ruined by a short battery life. The Motorola Moto G boasts an all day battery life, making it perfect for frequent travellers. With a 1.3MP front facing camera and a 3.8MP rear camera the specifications of the phone tick all the right boxes and with access to Google Play you cannot go wrong. The Motorola Moto G will cost around £155.

Google Nexus 5

The most expensive in the ‘budget range’ but makes the cuts as you can pick it up for £22 per month, the Google Nexus 5 has been described by some as the ‘best smartphone in the world.’ Although the Google Nexus 5 has been criticized for its camera, if this is the only flaw then you will not be disappointed. The camera is not to the standard of the leading brands of smartphone but is still a high quality camera.

The great thing about the Nexus 5 is also the fact you get access to the brand new Android update 4.4 KitKat. The battery life is not too shoddy on the Google Nexus 5 either with claims of 17 hours of talktime and 300 hours of standby time. With a 4.95 inch full HD display the Google Nexus 5 is a great choice. The Google Nexus 5 will cost around £22 per month with Unlimted Text and 300 minutes of call time.

Nokia Lumia 520

If you are looking for something different but recognizable in every aspect, combining the old school favorite Nokia and with Windows 8 is the perfect way to go. The Nokia Lumia 520 actually makes Windows 8 seem usable (almost as if Windows 8 was designed for this type of device!). Although you will find much less Apps available than on Google Play and ITunes, you do still see a lot of the favorites and with the phone being a Microsoft Windows phone you will get to make the most of the Xbox link up.  The great looking phone is available for £100 and also available for £9.99 per month for 100 minutes, 500 texts.
