If you love cars, and I mean really love cars, then DRIVE.NET is the perfect app for you. DRIVE.NET sounds like some GPS-powered navigations system, but it is far from that. It is an app that serves as a social networking platform for car aficionados, who want to post their favorite moments concerning cars and read about what other car lovers are doing across the country and around the world.
DRIVE.NET App Review
Originally offered on the Android platform, DRIVE.NET is a free app now ready to zoom on iOS devices, including iPhones, iPads, and iPod Touches. It is optimized for iPhone 5, but works on any device as long as the device is running iOS 7.0 or later. With over 1 million users posting and sharing information about millions of cars, it is easy to see why car enthusiasts flock to this app. In a nutshell, logging into DRIVE.NET is like attending a virtual car show. Car lovers across the globe sign in and share stories, videos, photos, mods and specs of vehicles they own, or would like to own, allowing them to connect with fellow car enthusiasts.
Tales range from road trips with families, to adventures that scream “Thelma and Louise.” There are no limits to what can be shared, and can serve as inspiration to start your own hobby or adventure. The overall site is organized by communities. So, if you are mainly interested in Volkswagen Beetles, then you can join a community that shares everything that is Punch-buggy. If you prefer topics that cover the ultimate driving machine that is BMW, join that community, and share what you have to others.
If you register and use the app, you can get push notifications and engage in real-time messaging, so you can really connect with other followers rather than just read posts. Joining as a member also allows you to post to other members’ logbooks or blogs, lets you view comments left by others and make replies to them, and allows you to customize photos you wish to post by using filter effects and other editing features.
If you do not create an account, you will still be able to read posts that are published; however, your ability to use the app will be completely passive in that you will only be able to read the posts and comments made for each post. You will not be able to submit any comments nor will you be able to reply to any comments already made.
The only downside I could see to this app was that when you selected to read a post in its entirety, the image that was given with the post on the main page was lost and not rendered. It would be nice to still have the image with the detailed post as you read through it. Outside of that, this app is a pretty cool way to mingle online with fellow fans of cars and learn more about them. Sometimes it is hard to get to those cars shows that show up in town once a year. Download this app and you can attend any time you want.
