The Fat Penguin is the new app in town that is raising eyebrows and testing your wits. Hailing from Denmark, it’s the new Truth or Dare, but without the Dare. You are challenged to question your fellow game players, out loud, on a topic given to you by the app, and they in turn choose one of two choices you present them, in secret. You are then tasked with the challenge of guessing which option they chose.
Sound exciting, scary, invasive, tantalizing? It could be all these things, and more. Warning to all, however, this game is for the 17 year old group and up. No kiddos allowed, because the content of questions that may pop up is a definite no-no for the young ones. It may even prove to be too much for some adults, but you won’t know until you give it a try!
The Fat Penguin App Review
So, what’s this game all about? You play it on any of the iOS devices. If all players have a device, it can be played electronically. Otherwise, you can set it up on one device and have at it. The app is basically a game that serves up a question once you’ve rolled the virtual dice. You get a card that is of a particular category. Off that card, you read off the question that is in bold. Read it out loud for all to hear.
Examples of questions are: Have you ever won a talent contest, beauty pageant or anything similar (YES or NO)? or something like – Have you had sex in the past 24 hours? Participants are now tasked with answering that question by selecting either a red card (NO) or green card (YES). The colors can also represent one of two choices that are given in the question. After all players have selected their answer, the asker goes around the room, guessing what they chose. All correct answers earn them points.
The question-asking then moves over t o the next player and gameplay continues. You go through all players and can do a few rounds until all cards are used up, or until you’ve had enough. Tally up all points to see who guess the most correct answers.
Fairly simple in nature to play, this game is sure to conjure up some interesting and unknown sides to your friends you may otherwise never have come across. Most of us don’t share much, but if you are put up to the challenge, everything gets more interesting. This can be used to get to know your current friends even better, or to even just get a new group of friends more familiar with each other in a fun and eventful way. In this age of all things electronic, this game brings a refreshing twist to playing online, by forcing players to all be together while playing, something we need to get back to more often.
As exciting and entertaining as this game is, it is a shame that it cannot be shared with the younger crowd, who really need it most. Most youth whittle away the hours in front of screens, devoid of human interaction. It would be so nice to make the game available to them with a kid-friendly option or lock – so they can take part in some fun interactive play with others.
Outside of that one downside, this game is a definite crowd pleaser when you are looking for something different to bring everyone to the table and better connected. There is no better way to get to know people than by putting them up to the challenge of making a choice and trying to guess what that choice will be.
