Whether you need to add a video from an online location, or from a desktop client, you can use the various methods outlined in this PowerPoint tutorial to insert videos and make your presentation more engaging. Check out the different ways to insert videos in a presentation.
How to Insert Videos in a Presentation
Embed Videos in Your Presentation
Adding interactive elements such as animations, transitions, and clip art to your presentation will enable you to draw attention to key points in the presentation. However, adding videos will add more creativity and help you engage better with your audience. You can add videos that are located on your computer, on a website, from a clip organizer, or link videos to your presentation.
Embedding a video ensures that the video is inserted directly into the presentation. The advantage of this is that you can copy or distribute the presentation easily without having to add the video file along with the presentation. The downside is that the file size will become large depending on the size of the video.
To embed videos in your presentation:
1. On the Insert tab, in the Media group, click Video from File.
2. In the Insert Video dialog box, select the video and click Insert.
Insert a Link to a Video File
If the size of the video is large, you can insert a link to the file in your presentation instead of embedding the file. But, you have to ensure that the video file remains in the same location whenever you deliver the presentation.
1. On the Insert tab, in the Media group, click Video from File.
2. In the Insert Video dialog box, select the video and from the Insert drop-down list, select Link to File.
How to Insert a Video from a Website
Sometimes, you may find good video material on a website and may want to include in your presentation. The Video from Web Site command allows you to easily insert videos that you may want to reference from an online location. The drawback with inserting videos form a website is that you cannot use PowerPoint 2010’s video editing tools to trim, fade, or bookmark the video although you can format the video and apply video styles.
1. Navigate to the website that contains the video you want to add to your presentation.
2. Copy the embed code from the website. You can do this by right-clicking the video and choosing Copy embed html. OR copy the link in the Embed text box.
3. In the presentation, on the Insert tab, in the Media group, click Video from Web Site.
4. In the Insert Video From Web Site dialog box, paste the embed link and click Insert.
5. The video is now displayed on the slide. You can now format or make the necessary modifications to the slide containing the video.
These are the different ways in which you can insert videos in your PowerPoint 2010 presentation. Select a method that works best for you. This may depend on where the video is located, how you want to deliver the presentation and what type of video you wish to add.
