Windows 8 Apps Get Last Minute Touch Ups for October 26 Release

October 18, 2012

Windows 8 is all set to release on October 26 2012. With that in mind, Microsoft has announced that the Windows 8 apps are also getting updates. When you look back on its journey, you’ll see how exciting this new version promises to be. There was the bad period with Vista and all its issues and then there was Windows 7. Windows 7 did much to make things better for the company providing users a sophisticated system that was easy to manage and came backed up by some great security systems.

Ever since Microsoft announced that it was bringing out a new version of the beloved operating system, there’s been so much anticipation about it. We know that Windows 8 will have a bit of its predecessor, Windows 7 but we’re intrigued by its new Metro style of home screen. We’re talking a series of tiles that you can maneuver through to get from one feature to another. The company has reassured users that the apps and functions that run on Windows 7 will run on Windows 8 as well and this is great news indeed.

Operating systems are known by the apps they offer users and Windows 8 is no exception. In fact, you get a sense of how seriously the company takes its apps when you see that the new OS will not have a Start button. This is in keeping with the company’s belief that the Start menu is not the best fit for applications usage. What you’ll have now is a sort of bulletin board that will let you access not only your most loved and used apps but also news about people and activities. The Metro style interface is aesthetically appealing and promises to give its users easier navigation and better interaction with your device.

Windows 8 Apps

Microsoft has announced that even the Windows 8 apps on its interface are being tweaked to maximum efficiency before the October 26 release. Here is a quick look at what we can expect.

windows 8 apps

Music

The Windows 8 apps for video and music will come with complete Xbox Music support. Subscriptions will be accompanied by a free streaming service and will be available on PC, Windows Phone and Xbox 360. There is also a great tool in the form of cloud storage that lets you save music across all your devices.

Mail

There’s support for IMAP, better search and a way to track conversation through the view option. In the messaging tool, there is an easier way to search for contacts. There’s help across the board, whether it is email invites or account pictures.

Maps

The company has updated its maps apps and now, apart from over 3000 indoor venue maps there’s Bing’s Bird eye view. You get driving tips and there’s better navigation to be experienced. You can also personalize maps with more ease on Windows 8.

Pictures

The photos app will include an all new slideshow option and better editing features in the form of rotate and crop, among others.

Apart from this, users will see updated Bing ( rewards, better results and file picker), Weather, SkyDrive, Games, News( you can access The Wall Street Journal and The New York Times, watch news videos and customize page views) Sports and Travel( hotel listings, panoramas are part of it) apps, among other things. We can expect all this right now and there will be further updates all ready for a new round of customers. The updated Windows 8 apps have something for everyone and Windows 8 looks like a sure winner.
