The magic of YouTube is irresistible. Whether you want to find some great documentaries, or simple home made videos, it’s the home for entertainment for billions of users. If you spend most of your YouTube time listening to music and fancy a song so much you want to sing along too, you’ll need a little bit of help with the lyrics. Official music videos don’t usually display lyrics, and that’s why you turn to other sources for solutions. You can Google the lyrics, but that will mean toggling between windows. A better solution will be to use a song lyrics finder as a browser extension. We previously covered Lyrics for Chrome extension, and today we want to show you another cool plugin by Rob W and its called YouTube Lyrics. Let’s take a look at how this plugin works, shall we.
YouTube Lyrics Browser Extension by Rob W
Get started right away by downloading the extension from the Chrome Store. Not a Chrome user? No worries, you can also install the extension on
- Firefox add-on at addons.mozilla.org
- Safari extension
- Opera extension on addons.opera.com
- Internet Explorer extension (32-bit) or 64-bit
For purposes of this post, I will be installing the extension on Google Chrome.
Once installed, open up YouTube and search for the song you want lyrics for. The YouTube Lyrics icon will be displayed within the Address bar and the YouTube Lyrics panel will open up at the top left of the screen displaying the song lyrics.
If you find the lyrics to be incorrect, you can click on the Different source link (at the top of the panel) to find lyrics from another source. If you want lyrics to an entirely different song, you can type the song name in the Search box at the bottom of the panel. If the extension doesn’t find the lyrics to the song, a link to Google will show up.
The lyrics panel is quite flexible, so if you want to move it around, toggle or resize it, you can go ahead and customize it. Drag the title bar if you want to move the panel around, use the triangle at the bottom of the panel to resize it or double-click the title bar to resize and restore. If you want to change preferences, simply right-click the icon within the Address bar and select Options; or click the Info link and choose Settings for YouTube Lyrics.
Although the extension is called YouTube Lyrics, you can even get instant lyrics on Grooveshark and Spotify (currently in private beta)
YouTube Lyrics is a really cool extension to add to your browser so do check it out and let us know if you found the lyrics to all your favorite songs!
