AudiobooksNow is an Android app that comes with a vast collection of Audiobooks. Right from the start, the app made it simple to create an account and submit payment info. It also seems to focus on security, making password changing simple and not asking for excessive information. However, if you’re still on the edge, you are given the option to browse the expansive selection of almost 8,800 audiobooks by genre, and specific categories. You can also listen to samples to judge for yourself the overall quality of the narration, free of charge.
AudiobooksNow Android App Review
As far as pricing goes, let’s just say my wallet has an ear to ear grin. The books are cheap, and for just $5 a month, you are offered even cheaper “club prices”. As a bonus, being a new member, I was offered club prices for free as part of a 30 day trial. I think it is better for the users to fully utilize the trial period to assess the quality of the audiobooks.
While searching for a book, you can view some information about the book such as a thumbnail image of the cover, its length (both abridged and unabridged), the rating, a description and the narrator. If you know the specific book you are looking for, there is an excellent search feature, where you can find your book not by title, but rather by things such as narrator, author, keywords, etc.
Another feature that I found impressive was the ability to run the application in the background, so that when a book is playing, you can close the app and still listen to the book, returning at any time by pressing the icon in your status bar. If you ever encounter any problems, there is a great, fully-functional Help/FAQ section with questions that hope to help you. In case they don’t, there is also a Contact Us section, where you provide your name, email address and a description of your issue, and the AudiobooksNow team will address your issue ASAP.
I did however, find a bug in the application. Under the account tab, if you press “Manage Audiobooks” the app freezes for a second and then force closes, making you restart the application. This is only a small inconvenience though, as there are other ways of managing your audiobooks, and most of your time will be spent not managing your books, but enjoying them. This is also an error that I would expect to be fixed soon in a later update by the wonderful development team. Moreover, this app is not available in many countries. Playback seemed flawless as well. I didn’t notice any buffering, but it always opened with little hesitation.
AudiobooksNow needs Android 2.2 and up. This free app doesn’t take up much space on your device – 8.8 MB.
