Apple’s new iPhone 5 is now in the hands of more than 6 million people worldwide with no end in sight to the number expected to be sold by year’s end. The latest iPhone marks Apple’s first redesign since the iPhone 4, and the first time the company has increased the size of the display from 3.5” to 4” diagonal. While the extra space is welcomed with great enthusiasm, it’s going to take a while for developers to update existing apps that can take full advantage of the extra screen real estate. Here are five apps designed for iPhone 5’s lovely new display.
5 Apps Designed for iPhone 5
Foursquare
The latest update to the popular social networking app is faster, and includes noticeable improvements while used with iOS 6 and the iPhone 5. Not only can you instantly find suggestions and nearby friends – but now you can also search for a specific place by name. Not sure where you want to go? Just type the name of a food that’s on your mind, like “chili cheese fries,” and you’ll find them. Pretty sweet.
Star Walk
This well loved guide to the stars and galaxy is now updated for the iPhone 5’s beautiful and larger display, with full support for iOS 6. Now you can view the night sky maps in beautiful full screen color and see the solar system as never before. Not only will you be able to glimpse the stars and planets, but also satellites orbiting Earth’s atmosphere. Consider it your complete guide to the galaxy, and more.
Open Table
When you need to make dinner reservations, Open Table is indispensible. Now, with help from your personal digital assistant Siri, getting your party organized is as simple as telling her “I need reservations for 4 at 6 pm at The Blue Moon Café in Charlotte.” Siri will then respond with availability for the restaurant, and make your reservation for you, or let you call.
Now, the premier visual social sharing site’s app for iPhone and iPad has full support for iPhone 5, which eliminates the annoying letterboxing that used to appear around photographs and the outside of the app itself. Greater stability has been built into the app so that you can Pin to your heart’s contentment, right from your new iPhone.
Evernote
Productivity has never looked this good. Evernote is the popular free app that keeps millions of people organized every day. On the iPhone 5, you can now see more of your notes and ideas on the main screen without having to scroll so far. It’s hard to imagine anything making Evernote even better than it has always been, but this update for iPhone 5 has done it with flying colors.

I don’t have the iPhone 5 yet (yet! I should be getting it soon) but I am a big Foursquare fan. I am glad to hear it does well on the iPhone 5 since I am hearing rumors that other apps (such as the Apple maps) doesn’t exactly meet expectations.
