Taiwanese electronics giant Huawei announced the successor to the popular Huawei Watch at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. Featuring the latest Android Wear 2.0 OS, the Watch 2 will be available in 2 variants. We take a look at the tech specs and features of the sporty Huawei Watch 2 and the Watch 2 Classic variants.
Huawei Watch 2 Pricing and Availability
The Huawei Watch 2 Classic is expected to sell for €399 in Europe while the Watch 2 Classic is priced €329. The watch will go on sale in India in April though pricing details are yet to be announced. We’ll keep you posted as and when that happens.
Huawei Watch 2 Features and Tech Specs
Both models of the Huawei Watch 2 are crafted like most luxury watches in ceramic bezel. This material is 6 times harder than stainless steel and highly resistant to scratches and abrasion. The sporty Watch 2 strap comes with an improved design making it more ergonomic with extra comfort for users.
Under the watch bezel lies a 4G, GPS, NFC, and Wi-Fi connection. These features have been carefully integrated to ensure optimal signal reception and zero interference from the body.
The Watch 2 Classic sports stainless steel and leather straps that still looks stylish for any occasion. It is also compatible with any standard 22mm strap. You can choose from a variety of colors and effortlessly swap them to match the occasion for which you’re wearing them.
The Watch 2 has a couple of physical buttons on the right side of the casing. The button at the bottom is programmable and lets you launch a fitness app in just one tap. The top button opens up the app drawer or lets you go the home screen. All the navigation is done via swipes and taps.
The display on the watches are a 1.2-inch AMOLED display with a resolution of 390 x 390. It runs the latest Snapdragon Wear 2100 processor, with 768MB of RAM and 4GB of storage, perfect for storing music offline for your workouts. The 420mAh batteries are expected to give you 2 full days of use on a single charge.
The smartwatches also supports customizable watch faces to match your moods everyday. Huawei Watch 2 offers IP68 water & dust protection as well.
The sporty Huawei Watch 2 is the only variant that supports 4G. You can use either a SIM or eSIM card to connect to the Internet, take calls and read messages without your phone. Users can also take advantage of Google Assistant to set reminders, get directions, and perform searches among other things. Other features include Android Pay and the ability to download apps directly from the Play Store.
The Huawei Watch 2 doesn’t disappoint with its health and fitness features either. You can take advantage of Live GPS mapping, continuous heart rate monitoring, real-time guidance, offline music for workouts and workout data reports on the Watch 2. There are also quick training options with the watch telling you when to run faster, when to slow down and when to stop.
The Huawei Watch 2 is rugged, bulky and ideal for outdoor use. If you’re looking for a watch that is more on the stylish side, the Watch 2 Classic is the right fit for you. However, the Watch 2 Classic does not offer LTE support, so if you must have a 4G connection on your Watch to use it without your phone, the rugged Watch 2 will be the variant that meets your needs.
