The dust on the iPhone 5S and 5C, which launched less than a month ago has not settled yet and here we are, already talking about the next iteration of the iPhone. For the record, we will be calling it the iPhone 6 and here’s a little bit of what we heard about the device. The iPhone 6 will have a 4.8-inch display and an 8-core processor and it will most likely see a September 2014 release. This was suggested by the analyst Peter Misek, who was quoted by Apple insider – a website of news and rumors related to Apple.
Earlier it was reported that the 5-inch iPhone 6 will be released at the end of 2013 instead of iPhone 5S. However Misek predicted that the company will not rush with the release of the iPhone 6. According to him, Apple will rewrite the iOS platform in order to be able to support processors with more cores – up to 8. Here is some further information about the device and its most expected features.

iPhone 6 – Name
One of the biggest questions around the release of the new iPhone is its name. According to the recent rumors, Apple will not follow the same naming strategy, since users may find it a bit confusing. If the model is released a few months after the iPhone 5S, people would think that iPhone 6 is a new version of the same series. One of the most common suggestions is that the new model will go for iPhone Air.
iPhone 6 – iOS 8
Since iOS 7 is already on the market, Apple will most probably go for its next OS iteration, iOS 8. NFC will also be making its way to the iPhone taking after many of the Android phones of today.
iPhone 6 – Wireless Charging
Reports of Apple filing a patent for wireless charging has lent credence to rumors that the next iPhone or even other iOS devices will come with wireless charging; a feature that is yet to catch up with most modern smartphones.
iPhone 6 – Screen & Size
The 5-inch screen will be expected to carry a 1080p Full HD resolution. The device is also expected to be super thin with the ability to operate it single handedly. The size of the screen will be very similar to the one that HTC One features or even the latest model of Galaxy series – Samsung Galaxy 4. Here is what Tim Cook said about on the topic.
“Some customers value large screen size, others value other factors such as resolution, color quality, white balance, brightness, reflectivity, screen longevity, power consumption, portability, compatibility with apps and many things. Our competitors had made some significant trade-offs in many of these areas in order to ship a larger display. We would not ship a larger display iPhone while these trade-offs exist.”
iPhone 6 – Camera
In order to be a worthy competitor to the current leaders of the smartphone market – Galaxy S4 Zoom, Nokia Lumia 1020 HTC One, Apple will most probably use a new technology for the iPhone 6 camera. And by saying ‘a new technology’ we do not mean increasing the number of megapixels – rumors are that Apple will increase the physical size of the the 8-megapixel sensor, in order to increase the amount of light that it gets. This will significantly improve the quality of the pictures.
iPhone 6 – Price
The model will be released in a few different versions. However, Apple usually follows the tradition to release their new models at the same prices as the older ones. In this train of thought we expect the 32GB version to cost no more than ?529; the 64GB model – ?599 and the 128GB one – ?699.
