Ocean Hunt by app developer Won-O-Soft is an addictive arcade game where players turn into hunters in an underwater environment. It is fast-paced, features catchy tunes, poses a lot of challenges at every turn and, no doubt about it, provides hours of fun. The game play is relatively easy to learn and it won’t be difficult to get the hang of it. Mastering it, however, is going to be quite harder, since there has to be a strategy in place, consisting of precise timing, and the right speed or pace.
Ocean Hunt Game Review
In Ocean Hunt, every player will aim to become the “ultimate ocean hunter”, reeling in the big fish from the deep. Using a spear, players will shoot at the different types of fish passing or swimming in the water below. Once a spear “catches” a fish, use the Turn Reel system to reel it in, and earn points. Players are given a specific time period to catch the fish, so the goal is to catch as many fish as they can during the time allotted. The more fish are caught, the higher will be the score.
Of course, the whole thing will not go swimmingly (no pun intended), since trash will also be floating in the water. Not only will players have to avoid the trash, they will also have to figure out how to shoot the spears at the fish without hitting the trash.
As mentioned earlier, timing and speed are very important in Ocean Hunt’s overall gameplay. Playing this game is simple enough: just shoot the spears at the fish, but be careful to avoid the different trash littering the water. With 28 different types of fish to catch, players will not be easily bored spearing their way through the game.
The game starts with an underwater scene, with different types of fish swimming to and fro. Tap on START to begin, and a spear will appear at the top of the screen, right in the middle. Once a fish passes directly under the spear, tap anywhere on the screen to launch it. A Turn Reel will appear at the side of the screen the moment a fish has been caught. Turn the Reel with your finger to reel in the fish you just caught and earn points. In the process, players also get the chance to appear in Ocean Hunt’s Online Leaderboard.
Ocean Hunt is not the first game to take place in an ocean or underwater environment. Neither is it the first app or game that makes use of hunting as its basic game play. However, the way it skillfully merges the concept of timing and speed sets it apart from other similar games. Other games put emphasis on timing alone, while others on speed alone. Ocean Hunt combines the two, making it more fun and definitely challenging. The timing when it comes to shooting the spear must be accurate, and the reeling of the fish (by turning the Reel) also requires a lot of speed.
The simplicity and familiarity of Ocean Hunt’s game play is certainly one of its strengths. However, it can also be its greatest negative point. It is easy for many players to think that it is just like any other hunting or underwater-themed game out there. Players who do not have a lot of patience will also be likely to complain that Ocean Hunt is very difficult to master, despite the fact that it is easy to learn, and the mechanics of playing are very simple.
Still, it has to be said that Ocean Hunt is definitely an app worth spending hours on. It is fun, it is highly addictive, and it provides a lot of room for strategizing while playing. Its overall look and feel, as well as its sound, complement the gameplay, making it a must-have app on your mobile devices.
