YouTube is a fantastic platform for watching your favorite videos. The YouTube Music Key subscription service sadly comes at a price. And it doesn’t even come close to streaming services like Spotify that offer many more intuitive features such as listening to music in the background or searching for your favorite tunes without visiting the site. Now, a new Chrome extension called Streamus lets you stream music from YouTube and enjoy a seamless listening experience from any PC. Let’s check it out!
How to Stream Music from YouTube with Streamus
Streamus has been in development for more than 3 years and not surprisingly is one of the most well received extensions on Chrome, according to the developer’s post on Reddit. Once you download and install the extension from Chrome, you are ready to listen to all your favorite tunes. Just type streamus in the address bar and press tab. Then search for the name of the song you want to hear. As you type the name of the song, you will see a dropdown displaying the search results. Just select the song and it will start playing in the background.
Alternately, you can click the Streamus icon at the top right corner of the screen, next to the address bar. This will open up the Streamus content library where you’ll find all the songs you’ve listened to stored. You can type in an artist or song name in the Search box inside the library to discover songs.
This amazing YouTube streaming extension also lets you save songs you’ve listed to in a new playlist. You can also replay the songs or delete them. At the bottom of the window you have additional options to toggle the shuffle, repeat, and radio button and save the entire stream or delete it entirely. You can create new playlists by adding a YouTube channel or playlist URL as the source.
In future versions, you will be able to login to YouTube and listen to all your playlists as well. This functionality may even extend to SoundCloud and other services.
Two features that I particularly liked about Streamus is the Radio feature and Beatport support. When you turn on the radio, the extension finds and plays songs similar to the ones you’ve been listening to.
And if you enjoy listening to the Top 100 lists in Beatport, just hit the Steamus (green) button, and you can stream the top lists right from inside the Streamus library (and save them to your playlist if you like).
Today most apps are created with a social perspective in mind and Streamus is no exception. The extension doesn’t just let you stream music from YouTube and save it as a playlist, it also lets you share your playlist with the world.
If you’re the shortcut kinda person, you’ll be happy to hear that Streamus supports a whole bunch of keyboard shortcuts, which can be found in the menu settings in the content library. Just head inside to configure them to suit your style of working.
Streamus is absolutely fantastic when you don’t care about watching a video along with the song and prefer to stream music from YouTube in the background without interruption. It certainly saves you the trouble of waiting for the buffering to end to enjoy the song on the YouTube website. And once you have your favorite numbers on the playlist, you can replay them to listen at your own convenience and comfort.
If you wish to stream music from YouTube you simply MUST CHECK OUT Streamus. Its totally free to use and you’re guaranteed to love it!
