Tablet Tips: 6 Apps That Can Help Boost Your Brain Power

January 22, 2013

One of the biggest benefits of having a tablet is all of the knowledge that’s right at your fingertips in a little device. Wherever you are, apps are a great way to learn about a variety of subjects and figure out how to do certain tasks. Apps come in a range of prices and a good amount are even free, so even if you’re on a strict budget you will still have a large selection to choose from. With so many apps to choose from, it can be difficult to decide which ones are actually going to be useful. Your time is precious, after all, and the last thing you want to do is invest time and money into an app that turns out to be a flop. So what are some of the apps to boost your brain power and allow you to impress those around you with your knowledge?

Pinterest

If you’re one of the many who have become obsessed with the site, the app is sure to make your love of the site even greater. It’s one of my absolute favorites and while it may seem frivolous at first, there’s quite a bit of information you can actually gain from using it.

  • Recipes – I’ve learned more recipes from Pinterest than I have from any other site. Actually, I used it to plan my Thanksgiving and Christmas meals this year. Pin your favorite recipes and you can find yourself quite anxious to get into the kitchen.
  • Cleaning – There’s a cleaning tip for everything from how to clean a broom to how to clean leather. Whatever your cleaning issue, you’ll figure out how to solve it using this app.
  • Quotes – There are quotes everywhere on Pinterest and many users have boards devoted to them. You’ll be quoting literary geniuses in no time.
  • Home improvements – Want to know how to silence a squeaky door? Fix a running toilet? You can find a ton of home improvement projects on Pinterest by doing a simple search.

50 Languages

As you probably guessed, this app allows you to learn 50 languages for free all from your tablet. This is especially great to use in your downtime and even allows you to take a test to check your skills. Some of the languages you can learn include Italian, Japanese, Dutch, Turkish, Polish and Russian.

Reuters News Pro

Whether you want to learn what’s going on on the other side of the world or want to check stock prices in the US, you can do it all from this app. Heading to a dinner party and need to strike up conversation? Browse the main headlines on this free app before you arrive so you’re up-to-date on current events.

iBooks

If you’re a big reader, this app is a must for your tablet and it’s free. There are a huge variety of books to choose from and there’s plenty of up-to-date titles. It’s easy to work and you can even bookmark pages or add notes so you can go back to them later.

iTunes U

I love all that iTunes U has to offer from lectures to lessons. The best part is that it’s all free. It’s a great way to stay well-informed through courses and classes even if you can’t get into a classroom.

Biblion: The Boundless Library

Want an app that offers an incredible amount of information? This app is it. It’s essentially an encyclopedia at your fingertips that gives you access to information about almost everything. It’s a great way to brush up on your facts you forgot or never even knew about.

Downloading apps to your tablet can allow you to brush up on your knowledge at anytime and anywhere and is a great way to help boost your brain power. Take advantage of everything the apps have to offer and you’ll be learning more than you ever thought possible. Don’t forget to get a locking mechanism such as iPad security locks so you can keep your tablet in your possession instead of having someone else snatching it when you’re not looking.
