Calling all gamers! If you are in search of something different and new, then look no further. Totem Rush is a game that combines the ease of a match game partnered with the challenge of a strategy based game.
Totem Rush Review
You may be scratching your head in wonderment as to how that could be possible. Imagine a series of tropical islands, each representing a settlement that you must defend from a variety of power-hungry invaders. The invaders can be sea monsters, pirates, or just zombie like creatures.
Your job is to build up defenses on each island, as you get to them, to ensure the invaders do not succeed. This tests your strategy skills.
Where does the match game come into play? Every so often, you are given a match game to attack and destroy the invaders. It can be set on a ship with pirates galore, or on an open field where land invaders encroach. You match up the mightily powerful totems that line up in threes to obliterate the enemy. As you do so, you collect points. Get far enough and you get bonuses that boost your power and progress.
Either way, this game is unlike any other game I’ve seen. Each individual game is simple and straightforward, but put together, the entire experience is awesome. The pairing of this varying type of game play keeps you interested and entertained.
The game can also be played at different levels. You can play individually or you can connect into GameCenter and involve friends.
As you play more, you will score enough points to successfully defend your island and keep residents safe. Achieve this and you get to move on to the next island in the series, a.k.a. the next level up in challenge.
If you have friends playing and you are doing well enough, you can send gifts to friends to help them out a bit.
What is really neat about this gaming app is that you get your upgrades for free – yes, for free! No more downloading the next revision or update manually.
What was a bit annoying is that the game can only be played in portrait mode, and oftentimes I could see characters saying things and dialog bubble appearing, but they would be so far at the edge of the screen, that I was unable to read them. This may work better on an iPad, but if it’s available on the iPhone, you should still be able to see them.
Outside of that, this game plays as just the right pace, not too slow or fast. It never gets boring because you are always doing something different and the switch between activities is timed perfectly. If you are looking for a different kind of game, Totem Rush is the way to go.
