When HP customers want something and tell the company about it, it seems they get what they want. For instance, HP customers have been telling the company that they were interested in an Android laptop and voila! they get the all new HP SlateBook 14. The laptop was announced in June and the company has started shipping the devices now at $429.99
Features of HP SlateBook 14
The HP SlateBook 14 is a youthful looking device with a flawless aluminum interior and a lively band of yellow coating its exterior. Its innovative design ensures that the device runs quietly with no unsightly vents or fans to disturb you while you’re working, playing a game, or watching a movie.
The SlateBook 14 runs on Android 4.3 Jelly Bean operating system. It supports all the mobile apps that you’ve come to enjoy on your smartphone and tablets, which means you’ll get to enjoy a bigger, better version of Angry Birds Epic, Modern Combat 5 or other games you often indulge yourself in. It also automatically syncs all your mobile apps with Google Play. It’s a bit disappointing that the the laptop is not powered by the NVIDIA Tegra K1, but for now, users will just have to settle for the Tegra 4 mobile processor with quad core CPU to run high-end graphics and optimize performance.
As far as the display goes, it’s a Full 1080p HD touchscreen (1920×1080). It also comes with a full keyboard, precise touchpad, and onscreen touch controls. The device packs Beats Audio with 4 speakers and a front facing TrueVision HD Webcam.
This is a ultra slim, lightweight device, weighing 3.71 pounds or 1.68 kgs and less than 1 inch thin. It offers a battery life of up to 9 hours. Other specs include a 2GB SDRAM, 16 GB storage, 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.0 combo, a USB 3.0, 2 USB 2.0; and a microSD slot for expandable storage. Users will be able to connect their TVs through the HDMI port and the integrated graphics processor should ensure playing of 4K videos as well, which makes the laptop more of a multimedia device.
The absence of Windows and Windows based programs means that users will have to rely on the web for their computing businesses. The device comes with Kingsoft Office so you can access, edit, and share your documents in the cloud. Other productivity tools that comes integrated with the device include HP File Manager, Evernote, HP ePrint, Skype, and HP Printer Control. Users also get to enjoy free 25GB lifetime cloud storage from Box.
Apart from the standard Google Play Store support and support for Google apps such as Maps, Play Music and others, users will also get access to HP apps such as Connected Drive, Connected Photo and Connected Music.
While most consumers are accustomed to the idea of using Windows on desktops and laptops, and using Android on a smartphone or tablet, it remains to be seen if there is a genuinely solid market for an Android laptop.
If you’re in the market for one though, you’ll be glad to know that it ships in 24 hours for the price of $429.99. Check out the HP Store to order yours today!
