When you take a step back and look at the way that technology has developed in the last few years, it really is extraordinary. A few decades ago, most people didn’t even own a computer. Now we carry them around in our pockets. Some developments (I’m looking at you, Angry Birds and Instagram) are completely unnecessary – purely for entertainment. But most are designed to make our lives easier. In fact, certain gadgets are completely transforming the way that we live at home. Let’s take a look at how wireless gadgets are transforming our home lives.
Benefits of Wireless Gadgets
They Allow us to Save Money
For many people, the most important thing about any gadget is the bottom line: how is this going to save me money? And for those people, that is the number one reason to have them. Security systems have the obvious benefit of preventing break-ins and theft, but there is no way to know the direct benefit; how can you tell if you would have suffered a break-in otherwise? However, new home automation gadgets let us control our utilities remotely, meaning we will no longer have to pay to heat an empty house; we will never again have to pay for the light that was left on by one of our kids. Not only that, but energy monitors let us track the amount of energy we are using and wasting, allowing us to cut back.
They Allow us to Feel More Secure
Perhaps it is because the things we keep at home are now more valuable, or perhaps we just get complacent, but whatever the reason, there are still millions of break-ins every year in the United States alone. It is an amazing statistic when you think about the gadgets that we have available to us. A little bit of DIY can result in a whole motion sensor alarm system being set up in minutes. Or even just a camera to keep watch of your doors and windows. There are cool new gadgets being developed every day. Give it a few more years, and maybe we can cut that number of burglaries down to mere thousands.
They Allow us to Be Lazier
Sure they save us money, sure they potentially save our lives, but the coolest thing about new gadgets, is that they allow us to be as lazy as we want. A new smart doorbell with a camera has been developed. What it means is that we can answer our doors from anywhere in the world, using an app on a smartphone, and even open the door if we want. Using DIY home automation, you can connect all of your utilities to your smartphone or computer, and control everything, without even leaving the couch. Heating, lights, television, sound systems – anything you want, all controlled by one simple app.
It is almost alarming to see the leaps and bound that technology has made in recent years, but the clever ones among us embrace it. After all, when it really comes down to it, none of these are the real reasons why we buy gadgets for our home. We buy them because they look cool!
