Thanksgiving may be a few weeks away, but its better to prep yourself for the big day in advance. Spending time with family members and thanking the good Lord for his bounties is tradition, and so is the centerpiece on the dinner table….the roast turkey.
If you are looking for fresh ideas for your Thanksgiving meal this year, take a look at the newly launched app for Android called Butterball Cookbook Plus. (the iOS version has received a major update in case you are interested.) Its got a rich collection of recipes and more turkey than you can imagine.
And its not just recipes for the holidays mind you, you can even pack a smart school lunch for the kids. We take the app for a spin to see what’s on the plate.
Butterball Cookbook Plus Android App Review
We’ll start off the review with the first great thing about the app. Its price. Butterball Cookbook Plus is available on Google Play Store as a free download. Once its downloaded and installed you can launch the app and choose to sign up for an account.
This can be done via email or Facebook and is ideal when you want to vote on the recipes available on the app. Not sure about creating an account? No worries just hit Skip to walk right into the wonderfully scrumptious looking Home page.
Of course, that heavenly looking bird will be the first thing you want to check out. The Bourbon Turkey collection contains six recipes made with the star ingredient bourbon. Heading back to the Home screen, you can find an endless collection of recipes all displayed in an attractive tile based interface with eye popping images.
Clicking on a tiled image will take you to the Recipe section that has a tabbed interface. The Details tab displays the image of the recipe along with the cooking time, servings, and nutritional facts. You can also vote up, favorite, and share the recipe if you love it The Ingredients tab reveals the items needed to make the recipe.
The Directions tab provides step by step directions on how to make the recipe, and the Notes tab lets you enter your own notes and observations while cooking.
The Home page also features a section where you can pick up butterball coupons and offers to save on various Butterball items such as service deli meat, turkey burgers, turkey dinner sausages and select meatballs. You’ll need to input your email address where you will receive a link to print out the coupon.
The Menu button at the top left of the screen reveals some hidden options such as how-to videos that show you how to choose your turkey, thaw it, roast it, and carve it. You can also view your favorited recipes, promotions that are currently on, as well as the Tools and Settings options.
The Tools section contains three main sections, Ingredient substitutes, conversion charts and a turkey dinner calculator, all of which will come in mighty handy when you need to cook for a crowd.
If you want another view of your recipes by product or recipe type, just hit up the Filter button at the top and you’ll be able to filter the recipes by product or type such as by appetizers, sauces and gravies, and soups or turkey bacon, ground turkey and burgers and whole turkey recipes.
