How to Program Verizon DVR on Your iPhone

If you’ve got a Verizon brand digital video recorder in your home, you can program it while on the go using your Apple iPhone. Verizon has released an official application that interacts with DVR devices running on their own FiOS fiber optic service. If you happen to be away from home and forgot to record your favorite show or movie, you don’t have to worry. A few quick taps at your iPhone’s touch screen interface will send all of the necessary adjustments to your home DVR, regardless of where you actually happen to be. Let’s take a look at how to program Verizon DVR on your iPhone.

How to Program Verizon DVR on Your iPhone

Step 1

Visit the iTunes App Store on your iPhone and download the official “Verizon FiOS Mobile Remote” application. You can search for the application by name using the “Search” button at the top of the screen. Once you’ve pulled up the appropriate application product page, tap “Install” to add the free application to your device. Note that you may have to log into your iTunes account before the download will begin.

Step 2

Exit the App Store and return to your iPhone’s main screen. Tap the “Verizon FiOS Mobile Remote” application icon to launch the software on your device. The first thing you will need to do is tap “Agree” to agree to the Verizon FiOS terms and conditions regarding the use of the application.

Step 3

Login to your Verizon FiOS account by typing the requested information into the “User Name” and “Password” boxes on screen. Use the same username and password that you use when paying your Verizon FiOS bill each month online.

Step 4

Turn on your television set and Verizon FiOS DVR set-top box. The application will immediately attempt to connect to your DVR. In order to do so, you will need to confirm the connection using your FiOS remote control. Once you have confirmed the connection, you can continue to use the “Verizon FiOS Mobile Remote” application on your iPhone for the rest of the process.

Step 5

Tap the “DVR” button in the lower left corner of the “Verizon FiOS Mobile Remote” application screen. The first thing you will see is a list of all the currently scheduled programs that your DVR will be recording in the near future. Tap the “View” button at the top of the screen and select “Recorded” to view a list of all the content that is currently on your DVR. If you’ve recorded a number of television shows, each show will be separated into a series of organized categories on screen.

To remove an item from your DVR’s schedule, swipe your finger from left to right over the item’s name. A red “Delete” button will appear. Tap the red “Delete” button to remove the item in question. Your DVR will no longer record that program when it airs.

You can use the same method to remove items that you’ve already recorded from your DVR. When in the “Recorded” viewing window, swipe your finger across and item and select “Delete.” Your FiOS DVR will delete the recorded program from its memory.

To add an item to your DVR, tap the “TV Listings” option at the bottom of the screen. Locate the item you want to add in the window on your iPhone and select the grey “Record” button. Your DVR will automatically record the program at the scheduled time.

You can also use the “Verizon FiOS Mobile Remote” application to watch live television and video on demand shows using your FiOS account. Additionally, you can use your iPhone as a remote control for your television by tapping the “Remote” option on the main menu.

The Apple iPhone is clearly a must have device for everyone no matter what line of work they are in.  Wes recommends checking out the variety of iPhone 4S deals before opting for the first tariff that you come across.
