No true geek is ever happy with the technology they already have. We want more, and if it’s something you can stick on to your desktop, laptop or tablet to make it even cooler, then we’ll happily spend ridiculous (but entirely justified) amounts on it. Hell, if it’s useful, then that’s even better. Here’s my list of the 5 best computer add-ons.
5 of the Best Computer Add-Ons
1. Kensington KeyFolio Pro iPad Case
What could improve the IPad? A keyboard. Yes, we know, you already have a laptop, but they’re heavy and are a pain to carry around. The KeyFolio case means you can just pop your IPad in and you have the versatility of touchscreen and typing, all in one lightweight little package. In practice, they type really well – the keys are large enough to use easily, but it’s not cumbersome. It looks pretty darn sleek too.

2. Henge Docks MacBook Docking Station
Until Apple gets around to releasing an iTV, this ingenious idea means you can quickly and simply connect your MacBook up to your TV or monitor with no muss.
It’s a sleek Apple-looking docking station that not only tidies your cables, but means you can quickly remove your MacBook without needing to unplug them all individually. It comes in a variety of sizes to fit all MacBooks and MacBook Pros – so make sure you get the right one!
3. SmartSwipe, Firebox
Own a PC? Addicted to internet shopping? Then this is for you. The SmartSwipe does what it says on the tin – you swipe your card, then it cleverly inputs your card details into the online payment form for you. It’s completely secure, and as there’s no typing involved, it protects you from keystroke logging trojans and viruses, as well as phishing sites.
4.USB Negative Scanner, Firebox
This handy little device allows you to digitalise those photos taken before the technological revolution, without having to faff around scanning in the original photos.
Simply pop a strip of negatives into the handy little film holder, and let the scanner convert them into digital pics. The software than judges the backlight and colour balance, and there you go, vintage snaps, super quick. Now you too can upload your baby pics to Pinterest and merge with the hipsters.
5. Silver Seal Waterproof Keyboard, Firebox
Constantly spilling tea, coffee, Coke, or even beer over your keyboard? Does the shift key now get stuck occasionally so you end up TYpIng LiKE tHIs? Well, maybe a waterproof keyboard will sort you out.
This one is, believe it or not, dishwasher proof, so even if you’ve managed to slop an entire bottle of smoothie over it (it happens…) you’ll come out with a lovely sparkling keyboard after a quick clean with your dinner plates. It even has built in antimicrobial protection, so you’ll get no more mould growing in between the keys.
