How to Erase Location History from Your Android and Prevent Google From Following Your Every Move

Anyone using Google services on an Android phone or iPhone should know by now that Google apps or services use the location reporting data from your device for various purposes such as improving search results or Google Now services or other features that we sometimes take for granted. For anyone who feels that Google is closely monitoring their every move and don’t want that to happen, we show you how to delete location history from your smartphone.

How to Erase Location History from your Android

If you want to take a look at your location history, where you have been and when, you can head over to Google’s Support page, scroll down to Location History and click the + button next to Turn Location History on or off. Then click the link that will take you to your account history. In the next page, under the Account History tab, in the Places you’ve been section, click Manage history. You will be taken to Google maps where you can trace your past movements.

You’ll be able to see your timestamps and even export the data to a KLM file if you like. Additionally, there are also options to delete history from this time period or delete all history.

Erase Location History from Your Android

One important point to note is that should you decide to turn off Location History and erase all past data, you will likely be preventing apps and services that rely on such data from functioning properly. If that’s alright with you, you can go ahead and erase location services data from your smartphone.

Now in order to delete your location history from your Android device, go to the Settings page and scroll down and tap Location. Then tap Location History. Finally tap Delete Location History at the bottom of the screen, tap the checkbox that says I understand and want to delete and tap Delete.

If you are not able to find your Location History in the Locations section, open up the Google Maps app, tap the Menu button and then select Settings. Tap Google location Settings and then tap Location History. At the bottom of the screen tap Delete Location History.

You will receive a message that you won’t be able to retrieve your location history once you delete it. If you are sure about this, tap I understand and want to delete and then click Delete.
