Since the birth of gaming consoles, there has always been war. Not just war in the games themselves, but a war of superiority; one console claiming they are ultimately superior than any other console on the market. We’ve seen epic battles from the N64 VS the PlayStation, the Sega Megadrive VS the Super Nintendo and currently we live in the on-going war of PlayStation 3 VS the Xbox 360. As we progress into 2013 the chips are certainly all down and the cards have been laid…question is…who has the winning hand and will call the reign of success?
Why the Xbox has that cutting edge
Even though it has been a close battle between the PS3 and Xbox 360, many people think that the popular Microsoft console has that certain je nais sais quoi over the Sony machine. Here are three reasons why people may think that this is the case.
• Xbox Live works like a dream compared to PSN – Even though PSN may be free, Xbox users believe the service that they pay for is completely worth it. Security is a big issue and Sony really let themselves down when their server was down for an entire month due to hackers taking over the system. ‘Tail between the legs’ doesn’t even begin to describe it. Xbox has never had any notable problems to date.
• The controller looks and feels better than a PS3 controller – It seems as if the Xbox 360 controller was designed to fit round the user’s hand like a snug glove. The thumbsticks also are more responsive than the ones on the PS3 controller, supplying a greater range of accuracy to the gamer. This particularly comes in handy when playing First Person Shooters, which is a huge chunk of gamers. The Xbox controller is seen as an intelligent pad for an intelligent gamer.
• Less Bugs – When looking at cross platform games, whilst the PS3 experiences a myriad of different bugs and lag; the Xbox 360 usually doesn’t seem to have any problems. Take the Skyrim catastrophe for example. Primarily, Skyrim was released onto the Xbox without a problem in the world as the PS3 gawked in envy. Finally when Skyrim was released onto the PS3, users succumbed to lag, game freezing, crashes and many other problems.
So if the Xbox 360 was the full house, will the Xbox 720 be the Royal flush? Here is what to expect from Microsoft’s next console.
Xbox 720
We are fully expecting a Christmas release from the Microsoft console to rival the PS4 release; no console wants to give the other a head start in the distribution race. However, on the 21st of May the Xbox 720 will be revealed to the World at their very own launch event.
Specs wise, rumour has it that the hardware on board the Xbox 720 will be very similar to the PS4; if not pretty much identical. This may seem like a bit of a cop out, but it will in fact be great news for cross-platform gaming – making the whole developmental process that much easier than it is currently. In some aspects the rumours suggest that the system may not be as powerful as the PS4, but in no way is that a bad thing; Microsoft are certainly up to something.
Many think that the Xbox 720 console will focus around the new version of the Kinect, next generation gaming at its best. But you can be also sure that they will have a solid controller to sit in the hands of their loyal gamers also. Codename ‘Fortaleza’ is also of interest. Microsoft recently filed a patent relating to augmenting reality gaming glasses; similar to Google’s project glass. Fortaleza definitely sounds like the ace up sleeve Microsoft have been keeping quiet about; exciting to say the least!
So until the launch, Xbox fans around the world sit in trepidation on the edge of their seats. After the let-down of the PS4’s waffle-y demonstration, Microsoft could really catch the hearts of new fans worldwide.
