Avast’s popular antivirus software is used by individuals and businesses all over the world and there’s no denying its effectiveness and reliability in fighting spyware, malware and other viruses that plague computer users. Avast has now launched its latest edition of the antivirus program, called Avast Antivirus 8. Avast 8 comes in 4 variations, Avast Free Antivirus 8, Avast Pro Antivirus 8, Avast Internet Security 8 and Avast Premier 8 and features some new tools and a prettier interface that makes it much easier to access the various settings. Let’s take a quick at the new features of Avast Free Antivirus 8.
New Features of Avast Free Antivirus 8
Windows 8 Compatibility
Users of Windows 8 will know that Avast compatibility with Windows 8 was badly hampered with several users running into all sorts of problems with the free antivirus software. Luckily, Avast 8 remedies the problem and Windows 8 users can enjoy the tweaks designed for its touch enabled Metro UI as well. That said, the app still runs in desktop mode, but there’s a cool tile automatically created on the home screen for quicker access.
New Interface
Avast 8 gets a brand new interface. The free version now comes with a whitewashed look giving it a cleaner look. However the paid versions appear to have retained their darker theme.
Browser Cleanup Tool
The tool is also available as a standalone tool and it lets you clean up your browser toolbars by offering you the option to disable unwanted toolbars and add-ons. Read how to do this here.
Avast 8 Software Updater
This very useful feature lets you know if other installed programs on your PC are out of date and need to be updated. This is particularly useful as Avast 8 offers a Fix Now option to automatically open up the installer for you to update the various programs.
There are also smaller updates including improved virus definition updates and automatic disabling of scans when your laptop is running on battery mode.
If you’re an Avast user, it’s time to update your antivirus protection. If you’re still on the fence, there’s no better time to get the best free antivirus software.

Avast is certainly one of the more popular antivirus programs out there. And I believe its free version offers much more functionality when compared to other antivirus programs. You might have to install the Avast internet security pack if you are looking for internet security and that might cost you. I wouldn’t say avast is the best, but it certainly is one of the better options for users. I have been using avast for many years now and I prefer it to Norton or AVG simply because it is lighter, offers a bit more and has a far simpler interface. But I also run MalwareBytes occasionally as it does a better job of detecting tough malware and trojan that Avast sometimes does not detect. If you haven’t had any problems with quick heal, you could continue to use it. But if you are looking for an alternative, Avast is worth a try.
