3 Revolutionary High Tech Gadgets to Avert DUI Charges

January 4, 2013

According to the National Safety Commission data, the vast majority of serious DUI related road accidents (many resulting in deaths) is usually caused by drivers who have never been arrested for under these charges. The problem with drunk and stubborn drivers comes from the fact that their brain functions are altered and hence, they cannot realize just how drunk they are. The good news is that there are some high tech gadgets to avert DUI charges that are  very useful for these situations. Let’s elaborate!

It is a worrisome fact that the percentage of drivers responsible for the aforementioned road crashes are accustomed to driving this way, especially since most of them strongly believe nothing wrong will ever happen to them. In addition, while unofficial reports show that the biggest dread of drunk drivers is being caught, when the alcohol levels in their bodies reached a certain level, the fright seems to disappear altogether. In spite of the fact that responsible friends and relatives might attempt to take the car keys from a loved one who is about to hit the road drunk, it is equally true that this task is sometimes impossible.

Handy High Tech Gadgets to Avert DUI Charges

1. Interlock devices

In general, the interlock devices are mandatory car accessories that convicted drunk drivers have to install in their vehicles if they want to be able to drive legally. Their mechanics is very simple and efficient at the same time: the driver needs to provide an alcohol-free breath sample in order for the engine to start. It is important to note that these gadgets do not allow for cheating, since the driver will be required to blow in the device at random times during the trip. If the sample of breath contains alcohol, then the engine simply shuts down. Therefore, while the drunk driver could trick the interlock devices to start his vehicle by providing a clean breath sample from a passenger, he/she will not be able to fool the device for long.

In the eventuality that regardless of what you say to your drunk friend, you simply cannot convince him that he is in no condition to drive, then a disposable breathalyzer device could come in handy. As the name indicates, the disposable breathalyzers are devices used to detect the amount of alcohol in a person’s breath. For convenience reasons, these gadgets are usually small enough to fit well in your pocket or key chain. It is important to note that their efficiency and accuracy are quite notorious considering that even the US Army is currently using them on the troops.

3. Alcohol detection sensors

While similar to the interlock devices – in the sense that they detect whether the driver is alcohol-free and fit to drive – the main difference between these innovations resides in the method utilized to detect the intoxication level. To put it simply, the alcohol detection sensors are located in the steering wheel and have the role of examining the alcohol levels in the driver’s skin and sweat. In case the driver presents an alcohol level beyond the legal limit then the sensors will lock the automobile’s ignition system.
