How to Add Names to Safe Senders List in Microsoft Junk Email Filter

April 9, 2012

Microsoft Junk Email filter lets you control and protect your Inbox from unwanted spammy email. In my previous post, I discussed ways in which you can tighten spam control in Outlook 2010. In this tutorial, I’ll show you how to add names to Safe Senders List so that genuine messages delivered to your Inbox from such senders is not mistakenly moved to the Junk Email folder.

When you add a name, an email addresses, or a domain name to the Safe Senders List, you are setting a rule for Outlook to mark messages from such senders as Not Junk. You can also add mailing lists or distribution lists you belong to in the Safe Recipients List.

To add a specific sender to the Safe Senders List in Outlook:

1. Select the message from the sender who you want to add to the Safe Senders List.

2. On the Home tab, in the Delete group, click Junk, and choose Never Block Sender.

1. Select the message from the sender who you want to add to the Safe Senders List.

2. On the Home tab, in the Delete group, click Junk, and choose Never Block this Group or Mailing List.

If you want to add the names of the senders or the distribution list to the Safe Senders List manually, here’s what you need to do.

4. Click OK  to add the address or domain and close the dialog box.

You can also check the Automatically add people I e-mail to the Safe Senders List check box if you want to include people you frequently correspond with, but are not listed in your Contacts or Address book.

You can also import a list of email addresses that you want to include to the safe senders list. In the Junk E-mail Options dialog box, click Import from File, navigate to the location where the file is stored and click Open. The names will automatically be added to the list.

Users with a Microsoft Exchange Server account will have all of the names and email addresses in the Global Address List marked as Safe.

So, if you want to ensure that genuine messages arrive safely in your Inbox, take the necessary precautions to add them to the Safe Senders list using this procedure.
