Follow Certain Steps and Avoid Photo Loss

January 15, 2013

Whether it is wedding of your cousin, or your own birthday celebration, or a farewell party in your office, you love to click photos. Photos give you chance to relive the moments that you have spent with your loved ones. However, to keep these memories alive for a longer period of time, it is suggested to handle your digital camera and memory card carefully. Below mentioned are some steps that you must follow in order to avoid photo loss:

Tips to Avoid Photo Loss

List of Precautions to Avoid Photo Loss

Always Backup Your Image Files

It is a bad practice to keep your photos on your camera card only, because if it gets corrupt, then you will encounter the loss of all your photos that you have clicked so far. Therefore, it is suggested to maintain the backup of your image files on your computer or other external data storage media as well.

Use Multiple Camera Cards Instead of One

Digital cameras use memory cards to store clicked image files. It is recommended to use more than one camera card instead of one big card for storing the photos. Doing this prevents you from losing all your photos because of card corruption, unexpected formatting of the card, or accidental deletion of data from the card.

Do not Avoid Warnings of Digital Camera

Digital cameras are intelligent devices that warn you before any mishap like they warn you for low battery before the camera die in between the process. Therefore, if your camera indicates low battery, then it is suggested to change the battery immediately or put the batteries on charging instantly to avoid sudden abortion of ongoing process. Using camera in dying battery mode can corrupt the card and thus can cause inaccessibility of all the stored images.

Do not Turn off Your Camera Soon After Clicking a Shot

Switching the camera off soon after clicking a shot can interrupt the photo write process and thus can cause stored image loss. Moreover, in worst case scenario it can corrupt the camera card as well. Therefore, it is suggested to not switch off your camera soon after clicking photo/s. Instead wait for 2-3 seconds after clicking any shot, and then switch it off.

Never Use One Memory Card for More Than One Digital Camera

Since a memory card is formatted according to the camera on which it is going to be used, thus it is highly prohibited to use single memory card for multiple cameras. Doing this can corrupt the file system of this card and thus can cause inaccessibility of all the stored image files. Therefore, it is recommended to never use one memory card for multiple digital cameras without formatting it according to that camera.

Do not fill your Camera Card Completely

Filling the card to its upper limit can corrupt it, which result in data loss. Therefore it is suggested to leave space for at least 5 shots in your memory card to avoid loss of stored photos.

Perform Periodic Reformat

It is always a good practice to reformat your memory card periodically in your camera in order to reinstall a fresh file system that has flawless atmosphere for data storing. However, it is recommended to transfer all the data from card to your computer before formatting the card.

Avoid Physical Damage

It is a well known fact that physically damaged card will cause complete data loss. Therefore, it is an absolute common sense to keep your memory card and digital camera both at dry and safe place, do not drop, puncture, or bend them.

Following these steps can avoid photo loss and keep them in good condition. However, despite that accidents can occur any time. So, if in any case you encounter image loss, then using a professional photo recovery software is recommended. Reliable photo recovery tool recovers lost, deleted, formatted, or inaccessible image files despite the reason of the loss.
