Thanks to today’s modern browsers viewing PDF files is as easy as clicking a link and viewing them on a new tab. However, browsers rarely offer anything more than viewing, printing, zooming in and out, and saving functions for PDFs. Notable PDF is a Chrome Extension that’s built to let you do more with PDF files on your browsers. Let’s take a look at some of the cool features the extension offers.
Notable PDF for Chrome
Notable PDF is quite a feature-rich extension. It lets you open PDF files from your PC, from a web page or from cloud storage locations such as Google Drive or Box.
PDF files that are opened will be displayed in a new tab on your web browser and will throw up tools to let you add annotations and comments, invite other collaborators to post annotations on your PDF, highlight text, and save the final annotated file in either Text or PDF format.
Using Notable PDF to Collaborate with PDFs
To get started, you’ll first need to download the Notable PDF extension from the Chrome Web Store. Once installed it will add an icon to the right of the Address bar and also display a login page in a new tab.
You need to have an account to use Notable PDF and you can create one using your preferred email address, or your Google /Box credentials.
Once you sign in, you can import PDFs from Google Drive or Box, or drag and drop files from your desktop on to the browser window. If you want to open a PDF from a link, right-click the link and then select Open with Notable PDF.
The PDF viewer itself is well laid out; the file sits in the center while the annotation and editing tools are displayed to the right of the page. The top of the window also holds common commands such as the zoom, share, open, print, and download buttons.
Users can hit the Toggle button at the top left if they want to navigate the PDF using thumbnail images. There are additional tools to the extreme top right of the screen that lets you navigate to the first, last, or specific page; rotate the PDF, enable the hand tool or go into presentation mode.
Coming back to the main tools of collaboration, the buttons on the left include a highlighter, a strikethrough, an underline as well as a Comment mode, Text mode and a select text button. To highlight text, you can use one of 9 basic colors.
As far as comments go, the extension automatically adds your initials to your comments. The comments themselves are sent securely to other users thank to SSL encryption.
After you have made the necessary annotations, you can download the file or save it to a location of your choice.
Notable PDF also offers offline support so any comments or changes made to the PDF when the internet goes down won’t be lost. The extension will automatically sync the changes back to the cloud when you get back online.
Notable PDF is a highly useful productivity tool that can change the way you view PDFs on your browser. Do check it out and tell us what you think in the comments.
