Christmas is almost here and, inevitably, gamers are gearing up for a host of new titled hiding under the tree come the 25th. This is the time where people who know little about gaming agonize over how they should choose something that special person in their lives is going to love. We give you some tips for choosing a video game for this Christmas.
Tips to Pick Video Games as Christmas Gifts
What are they playing now?
Obviously, you need to start with some recon work before going out to the store. First, find out what they play now. Get into a conversation about what they play, or even pay them a visit whilst they’re playing a game. If they aren’t around, you could take a sneaky look at their collection to see what they’re playing.
Look for the newest games. A gamer’s tastes change all the time. What they enjoyed a year ago isn’t necessarily what they enjoy playing now.
You should pay extra attention to anything bought within the last month or so, as well as any games which are part of a series.
What’s on the market now?
Rather than wasting your time going into an actual games store, look online for the titles which have recently being released. November is always a big month for gaming. Get a list of what’s been released in November. You might be lucky enough to find a sequel to a favorite game; in which case you have your present.
2013 is a special year for winter games, though. The two new next generation consoles have been released. If you really want to splash some cash, consider buying them a PS4 or Xbox One. It will burn a hole in your wallet, but it’s going to keep them occupied for years to come.
Are vouchers an option?
Vouchers give gamers a chance to go out to the store and buy something for themselves. You have to be careful when you use them, however.
Only use vouchers as a last resort. The problem with vouchers is they demonstrate you’re quite lazy. It doesn’t have the same effect as unwrapping a present. If you’re going to use a voucher, try to get them something else so they have something to open.
Of course, there’s no clear rule for vouchers. Some people will tell their relatives to get them vouchers or money, instead. It’s like buying clothes. Some people prefer to do it themselves.
Gift Wrap Options
If you want to get the best deals, buy from a site like Amazon. There are also small retailers which work in a similar way to Amazon. They always have lower prices than the big chain stores. On Amazon, for example, you can find new games which are up to £10 lower than the price at the chain store in town.
You can also take advantage of the gift wrap option. They’ll wrap the present up for you, so all you have to do is throw it under the tree when it comes through the door. Christmas has never been so simple!
