As of the first quarter of 2021, there are more than 3.4 million apps available on Google Play and around 2.2 million on the Apple iStore. The dizzying amount of colorful icons thrown at you when you go onto these stores can become overwhelming. Which ones are worth your time?

Besides entertainment apps such as Netflix, e-books, and gaming platforms such as that for casino NetBet that many of us use daily but are not essential, there are some that are crucial to add to your mobile device. Here we list 5 of the best apps essential to have on your phone, be it on Apple, Android, and/or Windows devices which might just enhance your social and working life.

Venmo

Since its launch in 2009, Venmo is almost a verb due to the ease of the insta-pay app. You can use Venmo on iOS or Android devices to send and receive money without having to carry cash or a card around everywhere. The app can even link to your Facebook account to see if your friends use it and get their details through your Facebook connection. If you’ve linked your bank account and card, all mobile payments and payments from that account are free. You pay a three per cent fee on payments from credit cards or debit cards that haven’t been linked to your Venmo account.

Waze

If you’ve had enough of sitting in traffic on your commute every day, Waze is the app for you. Waze collects information shared by users in your area and creates a comprehensive traffic report in real-time. This app boasts being the largest community-based navigation service in the world and gives you an easy way to get where you need to be on time.

Zomato

Can you never decide where you want to eat when you go out? Do you always spend way too long having a back and forth about what to get when you order out? With Zomato, you can search restaurants nearby based on the food you want and your budget. When you click on a restaurant, it shows you pictures of the menus compared to nearby restaurants. You can also find reviews and suggestions from friends and mark your favourite spots to recommend to others.

If you’re a dog owner, you probably know not to feed them chocolate, but what about other foods? Can you feed them cheese? Is it okay that the dog gobbled up the grape you dropped on th efloor? This app gives you the low down on what dogs can and can’t eat, as well as some dietary and behavioural tips. 

RunPee

Have you ever been watching a movie and needed to go to the bathroom but were too afraid to leave and miss an important scene? There’s an app for that! Find the film in its expansive archives and click play when you start watching. The app will notify you when nothing’s happening for a few minutes, and you can go to the bathroom without missing much. It even comes with helpful explanations of what’s happening in the scene you’re missing and how long you have to get back to the action.
