If you’ve got an Android device, then perhaps, you’d want to have an app that lets you make free calls and send messages to anyone, anywhere. Viber app (requires Android 2.0 and up) is available for free in the Android market that lets you call as well as send messages to contacts, both local and international, at no charge at all. The only catch being other users need to have Viber installed on their devices and have a 3G and WiFi connection. The app is not only free to download and use, but also is ad-free, and does not require any in-app purchase.
Viber App Review
When you first install the Viber app you are asked to input your phone number. You will then receive a code, which you need to input to activate your Viber account. You can then contact people who have Viber installed on their devices by a message notification or by a phone call for free.
Viber works just like a normal phone service. It accesses your address book and displays a tiny Viber phone icon next to the contact’s name. It also allows you to check all calls made including missed calls.
You can still use Viber to make a GSM call to contacts who don’t have Viber installed. Additional features include a full screen keypad, the ability to invite friends to use Viber with a free pre-installed message setting; settings to enable display of contact icons, view users who recently joined Viber, set vibrations for messages or dialpad, and more. You will need to have Viber running in the background if you want to always receive incoming calls or messages, but the app doesn’t use up too much memory or drain the battery.
According to the developers, there’s also more improvements coming including custom ringtones, wallpapers, location based services and more. Check out this promo video.
