If you are a Gmail user and have the habit of sending email messages to multiple people, you probably won’t find an intuitive solution within the email client to do it. In other words, you need an alternative tool or have to live with doing things unproductively. All that’s about to change now thanks to Ajay Goel, the man behind Wordzen, the cool email editing service for Gmail.
Ajay’s latest creation is a powerful mass email system for Gmail called Gmass. This is a Chrome extension that lets you effortlessly send mass email to Gmail contacts and its completely free to use. Here’s a little bit more about how the tool works.
What You Can Do with Gmass
- Send Mass Email: You can send email campaigns to your existing Gmail contacts.
- Save Email Lists: You can save recipients’ lists in Google Contacts to mass email any time you want.
- Personalize Email: You can personalize the email with the first name, last name and email address fields.
- Schedule Mass Emails: You can set up mass emails to be sent at any time in the future.
- Track Open Emails: You can track emails that are opened by recipients.
- Search and Compose: You can search your Gmail account for older emails and compose email to recipients in the search results.
- Send Emails as Replies: If you had conversations with your mass email recipients, you can use Gmass to reply to the last conversation you had with each person.
- Test Mode: You can use the Draft feature to test if your personalized email messages are reaching the recipients in the way you intended.
How to Send Mass Email Using Gmass
You can install Gmass just as you would any other Chrome extension. Once downloaded, you will be required to connect it to your Gmail account and grant access permissions. Once installed you will see a Compose with Search button on the main UI and the Gmass button in the email Compose window.
You can now start composing your mass email right away.
In the To text box, enter the contacts you want to mass email. Make sure that your contacts display a first name and last name because Gmass will use these details for personalization.
In the email body, instead of starting with a Hi or Hello, you need to enter Hello {FirstName}. Alternately, you can choose the personalization option from the Settings dialog which can be accessed by clicking the up arrow button.
Next, add your subject and email body.
And finish off with your email signature.
Next, hit the Gmass up arrow button to display the Settings dialog. Here you’ll find options to track emails, compose them as new messages or replies, send them immediately or save them as drafts, save the email with a specific name or schedule emails for later. Select the options as you prefer.
Once that’s done, just hit Gmass to send the personalized email to all your recipients.
Advantages of Using Gmass
- Its light and unobtrusive. Installs only 2 icons in Gmail
- Big time saver and easy to use
- Its currently free to use (likely to become subscription based at a later point in time)
- Makes messages more personal, creates an impression that the message was personally crafted or replied to giving the sender a better chance of receiving a reply as it won’t be discarded as a promotion or junk.
- Makes creation of a recipient contact list easy by inputting a search term in Gmail’s search box and then hitting the newly activated red Compose from Search button.
The Future of Gmass
Ajay and team have been hard at work constantly refining and making improvements to Gmass. They have a whole lot of great features lined up for future release including the following:
- Importing data from a Google Sheets
- Sending to contacts in a CSV file
- Click-tracking for URLs in emails
- Mobile email client support (Gmail app or Apple Mail)
- Support for Safari and Firefox
- Support for Google Inbox
- Ability to bypass Gmail’s limit of 500 sent emails/day
Final Thoughts
Gmass is not a tool designed to replace traditional marketing systems like Mailchimp. However, should you find yourself wanting to send mass email to scores of your Google Contacts, there’s no cooler tool to do in than Gmass.
Download Gmass and start sending mass email in Gmail!

Thanks for this awesome review! We are indeed working hard to bring those other features to light. Later this week, we’ll be launching Click Tracking.

This isn’t much of a review. All of that information was just posted from the developers web-page.
I’ve downloaded and tested the chrome app and although it shows promise, it has a way to go.
I really like the integration with google sheets and the ability to send a follow-up email to people that exhibited certain behaviors such as opened, didn’t open, open and clicked…but the open tracking and click tracking didn’t work accurately for me.
