OneNote is a fantastic note taking app that comes as part of the Office suite of applications. The application has tons of good features including the ability to collect and organize data in sections within a notebook, collect items from the web, tag and email items at your convenience, link meeting notes and tasks with Outlook, share notes with others and also keep all data in a secure password protected setting. With the OneNote mobile application, you can even access data from anywhere and at anytime. OneNote is definitely one of my favorite applications and today, I chanced upon a cool add-in that makes OneNote a complete joy to work with. It’s called Onetastic and in this post, we take a look at its feature offerings.
Onetastic Add in for OneNote
Onetastic has some great features for OneNote power users. If you want to make use of macros, work with calendars, play with images, use Custom Styles, or simplify work using shortcuts, Onetastic is a tool you must consider using. Here’s a look at some of its key features.
Macros
If you love using macros in your work, Onetastic offers a macro builder that lets you create and build your own macros. If you aren’t the macro-creating type, you can also take advantage of the macros that the tool offers by default. You’ll find all the macros you need for your work in the Ribbon group. Some of the popular macros you can download include creating a table of contents, inserting a horizontal line, inserting number of pages, searching and replacing, changing title font, doing a spell check and so on.
OneCalendar
The OneCalendar lets you view your notes in a calendar format. A cool feature of OneCalendar is that you can simply hover over a note you created to view a thumbnail view of the page.
You can access the calendar notes in the order in which you created them or modified them as the case may be. The calendar is certainly helpful when you want to check out items that were recently edited. The Settings area lets you decide how you want your notebooks displayed, whether on the date of creation or on the date of modification or both.
You can access OneCalendar from the Ribbon or if you spend more time on it, you can download it as a separate application and launch it from your desktop or Start screen.
Editing Images
Since most users frequently work with images in OneNote, it makes sense to have an image cropping feature by default. Onetastic brings in that option via a right-click menu item. Also, if you want to copy text from images, there’s a cool right-click menu option called Select Text From Image that will allow you to do it. Another useful feature is the option to flip or rotate printouts in order to display it in the proper orientation. OneNote currently does not offer this option.
Custom Styles
The OneNote application, has by default, a set of built-in styles that can help in quickly formatting text, but Onetastic makes that feature more customizable by enabling users to create custom styles and save them to the Style gallery for use later on.
Pin to Favorites
If you frequently use a particular section or page, you can use the options in the Pin to Favorites section to access them later from a more convenient location such as the desktop or a specific folder.
Onetastic is available in English, Chinese, German and Turkish and is available as a free download! Check out this awesome add in and tell us if you think it helps doing those little OneNote tasks more efficiently.
